Post Help identifying a melody
Ok. So I was watching this documentary about electronic music in the movies. The video is an hour long but a melody caught my ear.

At 26:40, Vangelis is discussing the opening theme for Chariots of Fire. He says he started with another theme (he plays a little) and then eventually morphed into what we all know.

The thing is ... I KNOW that original theme and I'm 99% certain that I know it from another film but I just can't place it. At first I thought it might have been used later in Chariots of Fire but I ended up watching the film again and it's not in there anywhere.

Anybody recognize this? Again ... go to 26:40 (then go back and watch the whole thing as it's quite good).

Never mind! I found it!

The tune is L'Enfant from one of his previous records. In 1982, the tune was featured heavily in the film "The Year of Living Dangerously" with Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver.

Whew! That was driving my crazy.

Wow! I love that tune… the synths and bass. Haunting and playful. A big part of what gave that movie its magic.
