The Peerless Tommy Emanual
There's lotsa great musicians but I don't think I've ever heard a guitar player any better on any level you want to talk about than this man but his music transcends any particular instrument. He drinks from a deep well and has so much musical headroom you get the sense that he's never anywhere near the limits of his abilities and is just joyfully loafing along in 2nd gear. I often watch this video in the morning. It makes me want to somehow try to conjure up maybe just a little of that magic juice.

This video has been making the rounds for well over a year and I come back to it pretty regularly. He is simply a phenomenal guitarist performing an equally phenomenal song. There is a studio recording of this as well as several other YouTubes of him performing it in various places. Personally I think this one is his best performance of it though. He's also released tab for this arrangement as well.

Iam a huge fan of Tommy; BUT there is this guy that needs to be taken into consideration. Feel the terror.

Never been a huge fan of Tommy Emmanuel, but I have to admit I don't know him a lot. In the same league IMHO , I am a huge fan of Adam Rafferty :

Re: The Peerless Tommy Emanual
Yeah when it comes to deeply orchestrated, deeply musical, deeply personal fingerstyle 6 string of this caliber - you got the late Lenny Breau, the late Ted Greene, Tuck Andress, Tommy Emmanuel & maybe less than a handful more in this little ballpark. Then there's a lot of acolytes that can pretty much go there but don't quite have that extra magic dust that puts these few masters on a different planet from the rest of us.
Speaking of which, here's a guy I studied mandolin with and most say what he does with a single flatpick and 4 unison pairs of strings cannot be done - and yet.......
I Gotta go practice...

I don't like to say...here is the best guitar player in the world...lol...because it's always question of personal taste, style of music a person likes, etc...
But...just to give more to listen here...there is a french guitar player I'm never tired to listen to. It's Sylvain Luc...guitar has another dimension between his hands...here is an example:

All great players. I've had the good fortune to jam with Tommy, Ben and Adam. Add recent jams with masters Stanley Jordan, Charlie Hunter and Oz Noy and all is good Very inspiring indeed. Love them all Steve A

Re: The Peerless Tommy Emanual
Interesting. Luc's "resolution" was astounding!!!!!! Charlie Hunter also blows me away. The rest I'm not really drawn to. I guess it's the harmonic content which draws me in. Luc is brilliant. The others certainly have great groove. Great players but not my cup of tea.
