Live Video: Nick Beggs tracking in a studio session
Hi everyone, Here's a rare glimpse at Nick Beggs laying down a Stick track, in a recording session for artist Rob Reed of the band Magenta. The track is titled "Beneath the Waves", and will be released in 2011. The engineer in the clip is Jakko Jakszyk known for his work with King Crimson and Level 42. Great driving bass line with exciting fills! Why don't more bass players play that way? I saw Tony Levin do some exciting two-hand-on-bass-side lines with STickmen here in Stockholm but when that technique is applied to a meticulously composed song in the studio at just the most tasteful blend between expressive fills and steady beat keeping it sounds just perfect. Not my fav music but the intro and that bass line makes me want to listen many times...

Along with Don Schiff, this guy is probably the ultimate "Swiss Army Knife" Stick player. It's one thing to play an instrument well, but finding the right part and approach for different situations is an artform in itself. IMO Nick is always that tiny bit better and "on edge" when he's in the sideman role.
Years of session work and class shine through here; taking it right up to the "red light".
Cheers, Andy
