It indeed was played both hands at once (bass and melody).
By "interdependent" I meant that there are no separate independent parts going on at once - both hands rely on each other to keep the rhythm going. I guess "FingerSticking" is a suitable term.
I just can't play it from start to finish in one take without mistakes, so I recorded in sections - several takes to get the whole song.
