Post Getting around the Grand Stick.
I'm shifting some of the stuff I do on the ALTO over to the Grand, its a big stretch, literally. Here's one I tried on the Grand for the first time last night. A little loose , but it will come together in a few days. Part arranged , part improv possibly because I'm a bit lazy and dont have much time. Tacked on at the end is something I'm getting together as part of a piece I call Steve's Trick Bag, for obvious reasons. Cheers , B

A grand stick is comparable to a tenor sax. It covers about the same ground and is a good overall range that covers a very usable musical average. it has enough penetration into the bass realm to be quite useful in most modern music plus high register too.

Awesome stuff, Bruce. You can definitely recognize the SA bass compass, and the slaps and slides. Cool. I love the overall feel you have, really nice playing!

Bruce is an amazing player regardless of which Stick he is using. I'm a huge fan, plus he is a very funny man. On top of it, he's one of those guys that says something in 30 seconds that take you a hole day to fully understand. :) as I said: I'm a fan :)

Hi Bruce. Total agreement with others on the Bass side tone. Mine only sounds like that with brand new strings! Am I understanding correctly that this was originally played on an alto Stick? Very fun playing you are doing there!

Hi Mike, yep , almost brand new those strings, so that probably explains it. Signal path was into a Radial JDI passive DI & then straight to ProTools.
Originally this evolved on the Alto Stick & out at open Mics I always do it on the Alto , at a slightly quicker tempo than in the video. I think it will go well on the Grand now with some fine tuning .
