Sure, it has a ways to go, but check it out and let me know what you think, eh? This was created this evening, took about 10 minutes (I didn't wanna work on my reading so I made up a "thing")

So yeah, for sure there's a thing or two to be cleaned up, and I had a sort of "solo" section too, but I decided to keep it short, neat and tidy, just the riff! Lots of improvising around my themes. Anyways... Lemme know what you think, eh?

Well it sounds like you have two earworms, not one. They are both decent in their own right. If they were mine, I would want to consider transitions and alternate harmonic endings to the first one. I wouldn't trash them, just develop them.

It makes me want to steal that line from you and take it my way... witch is the best compliment I could ever make. Kind of like most of Andy's stuff these days: have to refrain this urge to steal other people's ideas! ;)

Hey guys, thanks for checking it out and taking the time to comment. And Rod, I would be sooooo honored if you stole something... hehehe I try to steal your stuff all the time, but well still working on the chops...

This is probably one of the more coherent "jams" I've put together; usually I have to record the stuff in Logic to really get it organized so that I have a consistent piece of music, but then after I record it I'll sort of discard the ideas and save it as ammunition perhaps for something else.

It means a lot to me that you guys notice the "two things at once" going on. Or the attempt towards it.... It's primitive at this point, but I'm working really hard towards making musical statements simultaneously with both hands, kind of improvising around a theme like Emmett Chapman does. A couple of big influences here, I don't know if you can notice, but the Bach Two-Part Inventions are a big deal to me, as is anything by Steve Morse and Yngwie Malmsteen. On Stick, I have been listening a lot to Rob Martino's stuff, and since I have adopted a mirrored 4ths tuning, I suppose there's an obvious influence there. A quasi "Steve Adelson bass compass" is a very real part of my playing (Especially at the end, although I don't do it the same way he does, I treat it more like a menu I suppose...) - I am also very aware of what is being played, and am doing my utmost to try to keep rhythmic and melodic control over what is happening. No arpeggio sequences as a "bed" to play melody stuff over; The bass side of the Stick has a voice I want to use too. So yeah, this is a good starting point I think.

It's getting there, guys. Thanks for checking it out, much more to come.

I guess that what I'm trying to say is that the attempt is what is really important...

I commented on YouTube but didn't make my way to Stickist. It's really coming along nicely, Scott! As I said, it really sounds like two different instruments. A whole bass line and a whole lead line, playing 2-hands self accompanying. Living the dream, man!

Getting there, for sure. It's nice that I can create riffs like this on the fly now. Really makes playing the Stick a pretty rewarding endeavour. Thanks for checking it out, Steve!

Also, one of the things I love about trying to create modal music like this (that plays off of any of the modes within a key signature) is all of the modal colours get touched on. Even though it's mostly a minor key endeavour, the bass line dictates what's happening, and implies the chord changes underneath. Plus, with separate parts, and a bassline that isn't just some mindless auto-play sequence, the riff sounds a bit more distinct to my ears.

You get a moment of Lydian here; all it takes is for me to play those (melody notes in the key of C) over the 4th degree (F) Mixolydian, just play those same notes over G. Aeolian, play 'em over A. Locrian, play it over B. Dorian, play over D. Phrygian, play over E, Ionian/C major, play over C.

Anyways, just an idea that I liked the sound of and thought I'd share!

Have a great Saturday, guys.
