Hi Guys
The Asian Adventure continues. On many trips here I've ventured to BluJaz, nice multi level place in the Arab Quarter to see music & undertake scientific testing of Gin , a most suitable activity in the hot climate especially outside in the lane where where speakers bring out the bands music. Never thought I'd end up playing there, until now.
Wednesday the house Jazz band have open house , if you play something you can join them.
To be honest I turned up fairly nervous , most of my stuff being solo material. So for the last few days I've taken any spare minutes on the ship to play a little thing I do called II,V,I,Jump. & also holding back the years which has a nice groove , both of which I thought would suit the ensemble situation and also being pieces which can just extend and I can comfortably move around within.
Anyway.... arrive and meet guitarist. Usual response " Wow!! you have a Chapman Stick! , same response from Sax guy.
Stage 1, drink one beer & and calmly panic as these guys all launch into some nice playing .
Stage 2 , moment 2 " Lets get bruce up people, wait till you see this thing"
Stage 3, Lets go.
So I began with the II, V I groove and melody went round a few times as drums , keys & bass came in and we're up & running. From there its probably the musical highlight of my Stick Life so far. The Girl on keys launched into solos whilst I just let the R hand stab out chords & not get too busy, and then the sax. This went on for nearly 10 minutes and we finally concluded...phew.
Insert most relieved feeling ever here.
" So how about another"
I had the I ,IV groove I use for "Holding back the years " as the back up plan.
Off we go again, same kind of thing even better.
So that was it. sat down enjoyed some more music & taxi back across island to alternative universe of the shipyard. Thanks as always to Guru Steve for tuning me into not just the music but the thinking & concepts that came together.
Tired, but out again tonight, better go & see what they are doing to my ship.........
