:D Yeah, I'm in "real Stickist's" territory here, but I thought I'd finish up tonight's practice with a small chunk of reading/improv arranging on the fly... Hopefully nobody's too choked that I am massacring their favourite song or anything...

I'm working on getting some subdivision in the LH, while carrying on a 'thing' in the RH, as well as some harmonization, and percussive noises to help keep time. It was fun, didn't take to long to slam together, either... Enjoy! Happy Friday, guys!

Hi Jaye.

Sounds like you've got your own kinda motor thing happening there at the beginning.

Noice.

:D I wouldn’t know, I don’t do “motors”. I try to come up with something that I need to work on that hopefully is distinct from whatever it is that other Stick players are doing while sounding cool... At the same time, I try to make it something that tries to transcend having the LH become a mindless automaton; I feel like both hands should get to do interesting things, so that’s what I’m working towards. But yes, I’d say that for the most part it’s “my own thing”, but I do try to stay true to the spirit and harmonic structure of the tune/riff while improvising a bit within said framework. Sometimes it works better than others.

Thanks for taking a listen!

:? Please do a video of your "slam together". That was one of the most amazing hand independence sequences I have ever heard and I want to see how you did it, please ...

:D Seriously? It’s actually pretty primitive... sure, when I get back to my studio I’ll do a video of it...

I love this tune. One of these days I’ll have to post my version. It’s ready just haven’t had time to record it. Nice work as always Scott

I know what you mean. I probably use the word motor in a very loose way. Finding your own gate if you like. I suppose that 's a large part of what defines us as stickists, how much LH, how much RH , when to throw it back and forth , etc.

You've obviously thought about it and know where you want to go.

Yep, I've known what I wanted to do with this instrument from day one. :D The challenge has been trying to achieve it. I am the sort of person who likes to get stuff done, Y'know - give me something to practice or learn and I will learn it. I have to be able to see some sort of rhyme or reason for it, some useful benefit that I can use to my own ends without sounding completely like I totally ripped someone off haha Some folks will dig what I do, others will hate it.

I have a long ways to go, but I am getting there, and I feel like every day teaches me some new thing with the Stick. It's really fun.

I'd really like to get people from Stickist doing more collaborative stuff - original works ... (hint hint) I will play with anyone, just saying...
