Post Into the Frying Pan
:D Well, happy new year, guys.

I'm trying to think of some spots where I could perhaps put some Stick into this, any ideas?
I was heavily inspired by Gene Perry's "Nut up or Shut up" comment on a recent FHF thread comment.

So yeah, this is a kind of starting sketch... lemme know. Heck, maybe it's "done". I don't know...

SO many notes!!!! How do you even do that so fast?!! Ultrarad.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one ready to knock out some new tunes in 2018.

For what it's worth, I would definitely say you nut up.

Pretty cool music, sounds complete to my ears?

Completely different but sort of the same.. haha...
Reminds me of when I was asked to sit in with an old tyme gospel piano player, they asked me to just do some improv with her. She started playing this "Floyd Kramer" style tune with soo many embellishments I could barely make out the chord progression yet alone add anything meaningful! I just looked at her and said, "You got this one".

I'd say leave it as is, its great like this. :)

Several flavors and colors of awesome! (Do sounds have flavor and color?) One of your best.

Among a lot of gushing I did on email (and gosh, I swear a fucking lot), I stand by this review I did of it earlier:

Quote:
Outside of a couple of childhood guitar heroes (EVH and maybe a couple of others), you are without a doubt my favorite guitarist in the whole world. What a complex, compositionally-awesome collection of riffs and themes that rock like a fucking awesome thing! I loved the guitar tone: that's some fucking gain. I love the drums: I'm instantly jealous how the drums take this up a whole level. I really gotta get my metal drums going. I love the riffs and the rocking feel.

God damn this kicked ass. I love the riffs and the wonderful layers. So many layers of goodness.
[...]
Scott, this was one of your better things. One of your best, but then I keep saying that about them all. But this was particularly good.

It's done! You can die now. I mean that as an uber compliment ;). I just listened to that
in utter dumfoundity....

Harkins back to Bill Harkleroad (on steroids). Maybe someday I can sit
in your tour bus..

I guess you haft to like this kind of music, and I do, but as old school
as it might sound with the above reference to "Zoot Horn Rollo" notwithstanding, I am as
Holdsworthian as one can be, but I don't say to my wife "do you want to listen to Allan when
we drive in the car :|.

I guess it's like sushi or an exotic acquired taste but for the most part this music is mostly
for people who like to play it, or try to, but not really for driving to work, maybe base jumping. :?

Hey guys, thanks for checking it out even though there was no Stick on it. :D There WAS going to be some Stick on it, but it turned out to be a little weird with Stick as I wrote it. For the future, I will need to make some extra space, and give special consideration for the Stick if I want to include that instrument in this sort of arrangement.

It was good fun to blast out a "rocker" haha I just like making these up, glad y'all dug it.
Now, back to Stick practice!

Finished! For sure!

There's a Crimson tune called "Into the Frying Pan".

Thought this might be a cover :-)

Haha jeez, I had no idea, whups! Sorry King Crimson! I guess I should become more familiar with their catalogue haha I am willing to bet though that "my" frying pan is quite different from Crimson's... I am horrible at titling my works, I can never think of a name for my instrumental works so I usually just look around the house, and this time as luck would have it we have a new frying pan... :D

As long as its musical and adds to the overall experience, layers of instruments can sound amazing Ala "Tangerine Dream", in fact I think I read they actually have a formula they used for composing.

However.. I have to say that sometimes it doesn't work, the tune that comes to mind is by "Ace Frehley" - Fractured Mirror. It starts out nice and I see where he wants to go but to me he didn't quite get there. Almost 1/2 thru the tune you're still looking for a destination. Then he adds very odd lines that don't really help. I got the vibe from that tune that he was looking for parts rather than "feeling them". Maybe I'm just wierd? LOL

Titling instrumentals can really suck! Some of my titles happened very organically and I was happy with them. Others were very forced and for those, I almost always end up cringing whenever I look at them.

The Crimson tune came off a record of theirs that I was never particularly fond of so I'd probably rather listen to yours ;)
