Thanks Scott. I like what you said about making decisions. Thats what I love about doing any song on the stick. Its all about what to keep and throw away. How can I get the most out the few fingers I have and whats the most efficient way to go about playing something.

Well thanks, man! Kind words - you are a badass on this instrument, keep on going there fella!

For me, I decided to hack out a transcription of the great Brian May's guitar solo (I love it, dammit he's awesome!) I got that written down today and went over it a few times. I am a wee bit stumped on what I am going to play on the bass side. hehehe Tons going on, and I'd like this one to be a keeper so I've tried a bunch of stuff tonight... Video coming tomorrow, but I thought I'd leave you my transcription (Yeah, it's messy meh whatevs...)

Im always impressed when people write out transcriptions. Its great ear training. I always look for transcription that are already done and then fix them cause a lot of time they are not accurate (im talking trumpet jazz solo transcriptions) Nothing beats just playing along to the original.

I so looking forward to hearing what you come up with. With this song even a small part is great. This is a huge tune. Mad world is a walk in the park compared to this tune.

I agree, Mad World IS a walk in the park compared to Bohemian Rhapsody, because a tune like that is less complex even in the sheer amount of sections, and can actually be stripped down to it's core essence and still sound like itself, despite being highly simplified. Bohemian Rhapsody, well jeez there are so many critical parts that help make the tune instantly recognizable ranging from the 4part voice-led vocal harmonies (soli anyone?) the mad piano parts, the guitar work that ranges from sweet melody to full shred to blazing rock riff. The rhythmic stuff, and the chord changes, yeah it's all got to be there or it just isn't the tune is it?

Now that's not to say that there's anything wrong with a simpler tune like "Mad World" because tunes like that are great, I love 'em. But there is a pretty serious technical difference between Queen and Tears for Fears haha

I transcribe everything I do. Pencil and paper and those funny looking things on the side of my head are my greatest tools... illegible nonsense to most, I suppose but it's highly useful to me. Even when I have a score for something, I will usually re-write it. A powerful memory tool transcription is...

My short version of just the beginning of Bohemian Rhapsody

Its a work in progress. A few weeks is not enough time for this tune. The future Songs of The Month should be a bit easier. Ill keep working on this as I like it. I can stumble thru to the end but its painful to listen too. LOL Ill come back to this in the future. Im happy with the start of the tune Though. Funny how once you hit record things change in your head and your fingers no longer work. Im a perfectionist so posting this is hard for me but there can be much to be learned i suppose.

anyway hope you enjoyed this a bit anyway.

Rob

Wow! Almost missed this! Rob!!!Way to go! Impressive!
