New (old) Notations
Hi all,
I'm launching on a campaign to do several notations this year of tunes I play on the Stick. I start with two tunes that are quite old and that I've notated before but never completely. So today I have put up a complete notation for my 2001 tune "The Manifest" as well as my 2003 tune "Shades". I have accompanying videos (below). You can find both on my web page at http://www.121normal.com/resources/charts/stick

Thank you Glenn. I always appreciate when you guys publish scores/lessons for the stick. Other instruments, like the guitar, have tons of published materials that students can choose from when learning. Not so much for the stick, which adds to the frustration of the learning process.

Hi Glenn,
So nice to see "The Manifest" written out. It's a really great tune. For the tab illiterate, do the slurs sonvey hammer-ons and pull-offs? What about the "bend hat" (that's what I've heard this ^ symbol called)

I went back and forth a lot on this. For a while I used slurs in the standard notation and "H"/"P" symbols in the tab. Then I used both in all staffs which got pretty busy.
I ended up checking in with one of the Interlochen fingerstyle guys who is primarily a classical guitarist and does quite a lot of notation. His feedback was that in standard notation, slurs have always denoted hammer-ons and pull-offs for guitar. Tab is a little more wild west but generally if the slurs are there, anything else is considered redundant.

Do I remember correctly that you're using Sibelius for your charts?

I am using Finale. Although I know several guitar players using Sibelius and it should do just as well converting between standard notation and TAB. You just need to make sure that whatever you use allows you to create custom TAB staffs.

I'm using MuseScore. I've created a template for Stick, but thus far I can't figure out how to group the tab and standard notations together as you're doing with Finale. Not sure it's possible.

I'd be really surprised if you couldn't reorder.
I've never used MuseScore and the information below maybe dated but I found this discussion online.

Re: New (old) Notations
Sorry - took me a while to get around to looking at this. Yes, that thread is old, but the limitation is still there. You can re-order staves, but staves that are linked as they are here (entries on the standard notation staff show up on the tab staff and vice-versa) can be re-ordered, but have to remain next to one another. So, the best we can do in MuseScore with linked staves is this:

The only workable solution suggested thus far is to finalize the score, then un-link the tab from the standard notation, and then re-order the staves.
