Post Manhã de Carnaval (Black Orpheus) - new from Greg
Hi everyone,

While I've been playing this up-tempo arrangement for 30 years, I never made a video of it for some reason. So here it is, solo. There is a trio version on my album Shapes, with the amazing guitarist Tim Reynolds and an incredible drummer, the late Johnny Gilmore (if you can find it). The bass solo in this version is the same bass solo I played on the record.

Played through amps - Grand Stick with the Stickup, Classic Tuning with a high bass 4th...

I hope you enjoy the tune as much as I do.

Watched, on your Birthday. (I'll say hi on fb to the goats) Hey, I DON'T see you using the high 4th (12th string) AT ALL. And you made "note" of it. Did I miss it? Do I have to watch again? I am due to the optometrist.
Great playing, but I went to get a beer during the bass solo.

I love this tune mostly because of you're version!

I "borrowed" the melody and used it in a looped piece I used to play like 20 years ago titled "Lost at Sea". I keep meaning to resurrect it. Then I worked up a completely different version as a solo Stick piece that I still play today.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Sounds great - the Interlochen tee is the cherry on top.

I like the chordal direction in the left hand during the melody side solo. Greg perfectly bridges a bass part with Jimmy Smith like jabs in the left hand that compliment the melodic idea / mood in the right.

Bravo brother Greg, another fantastic bit!

Tone fits the piece nicely. Well done.

That is fantastic. Such mastery. I'm now immediately off to try and work out how on earth you did the harmonics! :o

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. It's nice to know an old arrangement still has legs (there might be some dancin')

TO MARTY: I only used the high bass 4th at the end, for the Amin6th chord and the last harmonic.

TO GLENN: That's validation. You are welcome!

TO GENE: It think it really helps to have an accompaniment part down completely cold, so that we can be free to alter it in the moment. It gives an added feeling of independence, as the left hand react to when the right is doing.

TO RANDY: Cheers!

TO JEM: Lightly damp the string with the right hand at the desired fret, and then tap the note as normal with the left. Each fret gives a different harmonic. If you are really precise you can get a harmonic out of each fret. For fun I like to play the harmonic, and then play the note without the harmonic. When you do this you can hear the harmonic within the regular tapped note's harmonic structure.

There is a brief lesson on Harmonics in Chapter 9 of The Stick Book. Have fun with it.
