Two New Tunes
Hi all, Today, I posted two new tunes on MySpace. These are low-fi "sneak peeks" at some new or revamped material. "First Light" will eventually open a suite of tunes all inspired by the area in and around our house up in Leelanau County, Michigan. I recorded first pass while on an extended stay there in the Spring of 2008. The opening is a combination of Alto Stick and Absynth. When the melody repeats, I added electric piano and Minimoog bass mixed with Grand Stick bass. On the third repeat I added 12-string acoustic guitar, slide guitar and Mellotron. Some of you have heard me perform this tune live but the live version is strictly the Alto Stick part with nothing else. "The Calling" is a remake of an original tune I recorded first back in 1984 in the Pearl Street studio and then again in 1987 in Allen Park. This version stays pretty true to the 1987 version. The tune is made up of percussion loops, synths, acoustic guitar, fretless bass, Alto Stick and Minimoog. The Alto Stick is used in place of what was originally a rhythm guitar part while the melody and solos are all done on Arturia Minimoog. Go to http://www.myspace.com/glennpoorman. The new ones are the first two in the list. Enjoy.

Re: Two New Tunes
As the ex-owner of a Minimoog Model D, I have to ask if that's an actual or softsynth Minimoog? Likewise, Mellotron or samples of Mellotron?
Impressive compositions/arrangements, as always.

Re: Two New Tunes
I've pretty much ditched the last of any hardware synths that I had. The Tron is M-Tron from GForce and the Minimoog is Arturia. I've been very happy with both.

Re: Two New Tunes
Glenn, I just had a listen to "The Calling" - the sounds and execution puts most of us to shame, like usual. It's an art form to be able to write and "assemble" pieces like this (which is why I now avoid doing anything with more than one instrument!).
I was really looking forward to "First Light" based on your description, but it wasn't working when I tried. Will go back and have a listen later.
Cheers, Andy

Re: Two New Tunes
I checked this morning and everything seems ok. But the tunes sound a little noisy to me. When I bounced these tunes they ended up with a sampling rate of 48khz for some reason instead of 44.1 and I didn't notice right away. MySpace didn't complain but ReverbNation flat out refused to take them. So I may pull the ones from MySpace and replace them later today. In the mean time, you can also hear the tunes (re-bounced properly) at: http://www.reverbnation.com/121normal

Re: Two New Tunes
Speaking of MySpace, everyone should be aware that the site is having some trouble. They have laid off 1/3 of their employees and they haven't updated the site in months. It might be a good time to start looking for alternatives. Also, make sure you have all content copied and in your possession. Facebook is just a leaner, better run company right now and is taking the lead and the customers. FB has passed myspace in activity, even in the US. Myspace's revenue is expected to continue falling while FB's is rising.

Re: Two New Tunes
Glenn, "First Light" is a standout.
BTW I was just talking to keyboardist/analog gear head friend of mine about Absynth, and we both agreed that it's a great instrument, but not always an easy synth to find a musical use for.
Cheers, Andy

-Eric Eric, Facebook is great for social networking, but as a musician's "Home Page" it's basically useless to me. At least Myspace Music offers an easy all-in-one format for posting music, gigs and keeping up with friends. Cheers, Andy
