YouTube test
Hi, If you haven't got anything better to do, I just posted this on the tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQqKk8TJQm4I did this as a test run last year, but my old PC couldn't handle the video transfer. There are some glitchy "popping" sounds going on (and I'm not just talking about my sloppy playing!). Anyway, I'm going to leave this up until I get some new stuff done. Comments always welcome! Cheers, Andy

Re: YouTube test
Nice playing there, not sure about the dress sense though!
My stick doesn't work as well as yours as I have to look at it a lot more of the time when I'm playing! The frets just don't fall under the right finger .............

Re: YouTube test
Thanks Twizzle,
I've actually been working on "not looking" recently, so I hopefully I've progressed on several levels since I shot this. Listening back, I know I'm playing better than this time last year.
However, my wardrobe will never improve...
Cheers, Andy

Re: YouTube test
Nice work Andy...you get a good sound. Do I remember you mentioning something about changing your posture? You look a bit skewed in that vid...not looking would certainly help, I guess

Re: YouTube test
Good observation. My posture is pretty bad in general (tall + lazy=bad combination). I frequently notice my right shoulder being at a higher point than my left, which is something I've seen in other Stick players from time to time. I'm working on it by trying to remain relaxed, looking in the mirror a lot more and watching my centre of gravity. I have a tendency to lean on one side for long periods of time. Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers, Andy

Re: YouTube test
Nice work, Andy, a cool tune!
Sorry mate, I also have to say you look a bit uncomfortable to me too, but I don't think it's just because you aren't trying hard enough. Have you ever tried the Stick positioned more centred on your belt and therefore more vertical? That might help your right-arm positioning. Or maybe because you're such a tall bastard, you need a newer/longer 36" Stick? Any excuse, hahaha. :p

Re: YouTube test
Jus,
Thanks dude, what's this pick on the tall guys week?
Seriously, I know I have been generally slack about my Stick positioning and my posture when I'm playing. I'm hoping my next video will show some improvements in that area. And hopefully we can iron out the noise issue too.
Cheers, Andy

Cheers, Andy Hi Andy, This is a nice video. I'd encourage you to try transferring it again to get rid of the pops. Otherwise, I really like it. Great to see you playing. Your right arm and shoulder definitely look like they would be more comfortable if you slid the belt hook over to your left a bit, and tightened up the neck strap a notch or two. Thanks for posting it.

Re: YouTube test
Hi Greg,
Thanks for the comment, and you're right about the strap. I went busking for 4 hours today and really paid attention to what I was doing, including the strap length. I think my belt hook position has been gradually improving for a while, so hopefully that's less of a problem now. Also finding that standing with my legs at shoulder width & dividing the weight evenly seems to balance things up. Like a lot of guys, I started playing mainly 2-handed bass, and that style allowed me to get away with the more horizontal position. Maybe this is the final severing of the bass-umbilical cord for me... I can see now that comparing players like e.g. Tony Levin and Steve Adelson (who both use a less vertical postioning), shows obvious differences in their shoulder positions.
The "pops" on the video seem to have crept in during my transfer from the camera to the PC, not sure why...
Cheers, Andy
