I like that one a lot. Nice.

Did you put a mic in front of the Deluxe Reverb sitting behind you?
BTW, I love the different rhythmic fills you're playing between phrases, and the use of effects (especially the decreasing reverb at the end, nice way to end a tune, I'll stole that idea for sure)

I used two mics on that amp, one cardioid in front of it, and then an omni near it as well, and there's even a little of the direct signal mixed in. I was really trying for a very "real" sound. I'm sure I'll never put anything up again that's just "direct" signal, though it could be a component of the sound for sure. I'm becoming a big fan of "re-amping". Re: Greg's "Walking on the Moon" by The Police
Greg emerges out of a soft sepia glow. Never saw that color effect before. And the Stick tone is natural, lots of plain string sound with miked room reverb - I'm there, seated before his chair.
Then there's the focus on new technique, the LH Reggae back beat amid LH bass line, double stops in both hands, also the right thumb as "6th finger" to carry out extensions of bass arpeggios. The song arrangement guides him on when to interweave and when to interlock the hands.
That very low bass D tonic is striking just where it ought to be, at the same time fat and dry (much like the next day drumstick I'll be eating in a few minutes).
And then, a very earthlike moon and Greg's snide expression as if, "I've been there before." To Greg the emergent film maker, is this an old Alfred Hitchcock technique?

Hi Emmett, It sounds like the intended effect was achieved. "You are there" with the performer on Moon Base Alpha. Hope you enjoyed that drumstick, still working on the sweet potato pie...

mike kemp wrote: But seriously, you and Sting are way up there on my "favorite artist" list. It made my day to hear one doing the other's song. Now if we can just get him to do one of your songs. Have you ever heard his album "Song from the Labyrinth"? He and an amazing lutenist colaborate to record John Dowland's music from the 1600's. One of those songs would sound cool on the Stick.
Mike
That's a pretty interesting record. I hadn't checked it out before. Thanks for letting me know about it.

I'm becoming a big fan of "re-amping". Does it mean that both sides of the Stick are going into the Fender? In that case, it seems that this amp can endure low frequencies (well, at a pretty low volume I guess).

Hi Bruno,, No, the bass side is going through the Bag End, also re-amped and miced with an omni close to the speaker. I practice at low volumes through the Fender, but it doesn't really give me much on the lowest notes of The Stick.

Lovely work, Greg! Maybe, just maybe, you could do a slow walkthrough of a few sections, during the Sydney GTG hookup on Saturday morning... Cheers, EG
