So I sold Paduak #130 to a new Stickist up in Canada, Lisa Carnelli. Totally psyched for her, having great conversations about getting started. In honor of her, her new favorite instrument and of Canada (HURRAY for all the amazing music that comes out Canada!), AND all the super cool - amazing Stick players way up north, Song of the Week #32 is Joni Mitchell's Carey, my favorite track off of Blue. Hope you dig it.

I also left some outtakes on there, cause sometimes I suck and it's funny. :D

Happy Thursday!!

Gene,
"Oh Carey get out your cane and I'll put on some silver" - a wonderful descriptive playful tune from Joni MItchell. Your arrangement does it so much justice and you, as always, captured the melody line so well you can hear the vocals along with it. It shows how great the song really is.

A lot can be gleamed from your technique with traversing lines, traveling double stop harmonies, proper use of alternating fingers while playing single notes, hammer on "Floyd Cramer" double stops all culminating in a nice rubato at the end!

You didn't have to show us the "warts", but if you felt the compulsion to reveal you are only part god and part human, well OK! :D

Those of you who want to learn more about Joni and the amazing synergy that occurred in California in the 1960's, I highly recommend a book called " Canyon of Dreams". There is also a DVD that you can rent on Amazon on demand too! Blue, and the title cut, is a great album. Excellent choice.

Gene, thanks again for one of "Gene's Gems" ( I'm gonna keep using that catch phrase till it catches on as a catch phrase! )
nice job again, & take care,

I´ve said it before and I´ll say it again. You are very good. Love what you do. And love the humour too.....

Well you don´t suck very often. That´s for sure. Well done indeed, sire. Well done. Would love to hear you play "A Case of You" from the same album. That is my favorite. :) Tricky melody tho but it can probably be simplified abit. Beautiful song. Just read that it´s James Taylor on acoustic guitar on that song. Always thought it was Richard Thompson. Guess I´ve been wrong during all these years...... :?

@Dave - I find myself having to look up the techniques and artists you are quoting. It's a great exercise in learning more about music, thanks man! I checked out the DVD Canyon of Dreams and am going to add that to the netflix queue for sure, looks really cool. G-d has a plan for all of us, having this forum has been a blessing and I am grateful for the positivity that people share about their own musical journey here.

@Jan - Hehe. I really wanted to put a handSMACK sound effect on there. Maybe there is some iMovie guys out there that can give me some guidance on how to do that. Laughter is the remedy so I am told. Thanks for the good word, I too am a big fan of Joni and really like Case of you. That would be a tough one, and I had no idea WHO was playing guitar on that one. I am still trying to see if I can pull My Aim is True which KC suggested a few weeks back. So many great songs, so little time!
