The Long and Winding Road
....that leads to your door...
Hi Stick pals.
A few scuff marks, but here's some Beatles, again shamelessly copied from the David Tipton archives (thanks David), played in mono, in my fave Morrissey t-shirt. Play with sub woofer on to experience full Wonka-phonics. Thanks for listening.
cheers, kev

Re: The Long and Winding Road
Very nice job, Kev. I especially liked the fills outside the melody and accompaniment. To me those are the details that make a player sound polished. Did you learn it by ear, or use some sheet music or something?
Just a warning from my own experience--be careful playing for too long with your head and neck in that position. It may pay to start rehearsing in the dark, or dimmly lit room, to break the habit. I have some bulging discs in my neck that require daily exercised to remedy. If you have never had a problem, then maybe it's no big deal.
Great post.
Mike

Re: The Long and Winding Road
Nice job Kevin...there is different parts in this song, different ambiance and you did it right man...congrats.
On my side I'm a musician who likes a lot to improvise and I started lately to look at some Beatles songs and the first I tried is a lot easier...it's a And I love her. It's not easy for me to learn songs but when we are talking about The Beatles...wow...
Again...nice job...

Re: The Long and Winding Road
Kev,
Boom- you knocked this one out of the park! Really really great job! You captured all the hope, sadness and pathos of the original tune so well. Your playing was so melodious you could hear the words being sung along.
I echo Mike's astute comments that your phrasing and counter melodies were perfect! they didn't get in the way, and yet added greatly in the rest spaces. I champion your use of the double stops specifically at 1:04 and 1:24 for emphasis. 2:03 finds the lilting carnival like section carrying us along like adrift in a lazy river and then you reintroduce the top melody and take it out. The rubato ending nicely capped the whole piece.
just gotta say "yeah, ..yeah, yeah, ....yeah" Way to go Kev, you should be very proud and rightly so! Kudos my man, kudos! Dave Brosky

Re: The Long and Winding Road
Oh! Yeah. Nice one Kev, and ditto's on all the above comments. That sub-woofer really gave the sound extra depth, just when I thought that 12 string graph' sound of yours couldn't get any bigger.
Nice to see your starting to look up when you play. Mike's right about the neck problems, I'm still stuck in the navel-gazing playing position and it somtimes gets really sore.
Great interpretation and loved those added extras you put in. Keep em coming mate!
Cheers, Eric

Re: The Long and Winding Road
What a great way to start the weekend.
Thank you so much for posting this KC, you captured a great performance and that tone is sparkling. Is it the Graphite or are those really new strings? The low registers have this icy power, I can't explain but it's so gratifying to hear and watch. Is that Wonka sound? Did you drink from the chocolate river?
Interesting to see that you lightened up about half way through - maybe subconsciously you were thinking you had the "take"?
Digging the Morrissey tee and I also don't miss the Sepia madness you used in past videos. David is a great Stick player, no doubt, but there's something to be said for a great performance - good show brother!
