Re: 1980's german stick pop!
Ok ... so how many of you guys went to see "Urgh! A Music War" when it came out. It played at one of the local art theaters around Detroit and I think we went about a half dozen times in the first month it was around.
I remember this clip ... my band actually started covering this tune.

Most of the bands in that movie were still pretty unknown and were yet to hit.

Then there was this guy. I have to admit that when we first saw this film, we busted out laughing during this one. I know he built up a pretty good cult following before his passing but I just never got it. Hell of a voice though.

Thanks glenn, this is fun. School me on some stuff. keep going! This went back to 78 but DAMN! best song ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7LfX9Me2GYSide note: the fact there is a white bass player is both hillarious and amazing. If its jeff berlin then he is the lord. This is so pimp

One of the great things about having everything I ever owned ripped and in the cloud is that after conversations like this, I can pull up anything I have from where ever I'm at. I haven't left my office and just finished spinning "Wilder" from "The Teardrop Explodes" and then moved onto U2's first record "Boy". @Ben ... highly recommend picking up "Urgh!". It's a veritable who's who of that era. http://www.amazon.com/Urgh-Music-War-The-Police/dp/B002WJHBEU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384353686&sr=8-1&keywords=urgh+a+music+war

I remember seeing this one too. Apparently Bowie thought highly enough of Nomi's voice to use him as a backing vocalist when he did "The Man Who Sold the World" on Saturday Night Live. http://vimeo.com/69749870

Re: 1980's german stick pop!
I remember Klaus Nomi was pretty famous in France at that time. Even if we can now find some of thoses artists a bit ridiculous, we have to keep in mind that the German musical scene in the 80´s brought a lot of nice perspectives "culture-wise". France was pretty poor in comparison. But we had (and hopefully still have) Magma :p

Re: 1980's german stick pop!
Listened to quite a bit of "throwback" stuff today. Lots of fun!
To me, the epitome of 80's rock/pop was the debut album from the Chameleons titled "Script of the Bridge" released in 1983. I remember hearing this record the first time and thinking "man ... this is it". It's still regularly in my playlist and for me this was simply the best rock/pop album from that era.
@Ben (again) - go find this one and spin it from start to finish.

(Yuta can tell you what the Nena words mean)

"I'm so alone I want to be with you I see your hand Recognized it at once My head hurts, I close my eyes I'm lying in the green grass and tell you something I didn't miss anything today Because I just dreamed of you We haven't seen each other for a long while I'll come over to you Everything I like about you, I mean it as I say it I'm totally confused I'll go crazy if it happens today I'm already hot I'm approaching you Your looks irritate me They only think of you!" Not exactly deep lyrics
