Messing around with the Stick, an Ebow and Stylus RMX….
https://soundcloud.com/jaw67/ambientcol ... pman-stickWow, this was fun! I was afraid to take an Ebow to this thing, but I figured "Why Not?". Proved to be kind of interesting. I can imagine with some technique and practice that you can get some really cinematic effects. At the end I was totally thinking "Book of Eli". =) I did find it hard to control the swelling effect even with a volume pedal, but maybe I'll figure out how to work with the Ebow better later. Also need to figure out how to do the cross-string pizzicato effect that you can do on guitar, and learn how to loop, and, and…. -Joseph

I like it a lot. That is what I call music for images. It could be use for a movie. I never tried my ebow on my Stick. I should... Really nice.

Tasteful playing, very good! I'm amazed how well you get the e-bow to work with the Stick. I've never had any success with ebowing my sticks - although I ebow a lot on my fretless guitars with no problem. Maybe there's and Ebow issue regarding what pickup hte STick has? Mine have PASV-4, what's your pickup?

Re: Messing around with the Stick, an Ebow and Stylus RMX….
Thanks! The Ebow is definitely a hoot. My Grand Stick has the ACT2 pickup and I was using it in non-stereo mode I think….the switchy thing flipped down and only the red plug connected - yes, i'm very technical. =) I noticed that I had to start the Ebow down closer to the bridge and then adjust the position in relation to the pickup as the swell would build (and then tone it down with the volume pedal and/or release the note when it gets out of hand). Give it a try and see what you think. I'd be curious to see what the timbral differences are between the active and passive blocks if you can get it to work. The Ebow creates an interesting reedy sound sometimes, but I'm not sure what I was doing make it do that. With more flexibility, the passive block might even enhance that effect. This was my inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIWMrK67_bkThe closest I've gotten so far is installing the battery in the Ebow. LOL….

I've already tried and the E-bow doesn't work well with the PASV-4. Phil Keaggy had passive humbuckers in that video, which works well for me too. I can even use my E-bow with an active EMG guitar pickup, as heard at 1:07 into this recording: ...but the PASV-4 just doesn't seem to like E-bow.

That was beautiful! So, you did the Ebow bits with a guitar, huh? Bummer that it doesn't like the PASV4, though.

Re: Messing around with the Stick, an Ebow and Stylus RMX….
Hmm, I have used the eBow on the Stick too and it works even far away from the pickups - in the middle of the neck. In fact I tried to devise a technique of holding the eBow on the neck with some of my fingers of the left hand while tapping/fretting notes with other fingers and the fingers of the right hand.
It's tricky, but with some practice it can be done.

That sounds like an interesting technique! You should post a recording of some kind. I'd be curious to hear that sounds.

I like to do that as well, the ebow above the fretboard gives a more flute-like sound, much less aggressive. If you know Eivind Aarset, he sometimes gets a similar sound on his guitar.
