Always loved this tune. This recording of it is superb honestly!

Thanks, Russell, Glenn and Luc. I'm really glad you like the sound and the tune.

Wow, Greg, that was stunning. Totally agree with the tone love ... seems like this is the tone in which this tune was MEANT to live, you know? (No disrespect to the Stickup on the original recording whatsoever.)
The slightly slower tempo on this version works beautifully. I wish I could tell you why, but this really touched me, even more than the original did.
That's a nice, really subtle and understated way to get that harmonic - took me a couple of passes to catch that it was your pinky. The casual observer would think that it was magic, as you don't appear at first glance to be doing anything other than fretting the note with your left hand.
Bravo, sir.

Luc,

Early on I took the advice Emmett laid out in Free Hands about the advantages of using a 3-fingered melody approach, and since I learned a complete melody technique that doesn't need the pinky, I don't want it to get bored, so I give it little jobs like this one every now and then... ;)

There was a time when many people were trying to learn Charmed Life from Greg's book. I played around with that tune, but the one I really wanted to play was Adrift. I was very happy that he included the tune in his songbook.

Now, many years later, I have an SG12 tuned in mirrored 4ths and I still want to play Adrift. I have started working on a transcription of the tune that is a 4th higher than Greg plays here. It still sounds wonderful and so far I can play it exactly as Greg wrote it, only up a 4th. I have no idea when I'll be able to get a good video of it. Maybe this summer. One can dream.

It's great to see you play the piece, Greg. It sounds really nice on the new Stick.

Thanks, Marty!

There are a few really pretty ballads on Stick Figures, my favorite is probably "Softly She Walks", which I should also probably make a video of someday.

Eric, I hope I get to see you playing this tune on SG12 someday soon, as well.

This is fantastic. Actually, I love all the songs on Stick Figures (especially the aforementioned "Charmed Life"). They're all great compositions. Here's hoping for another "song-oriented" Greg album in the near future ;)

Thanks for the encouragement, Steven. I haven't written much for solo Stick recently, so maybe it's time!

Second time listening to this, and it hits me like a warm fuzzy velvet glove. No seriously, you have so much expression right from the get go and the development of ideas arpeggios and melodies…. Well, it's just great Music.

I think we're the lucky ones because we can get a glimpse of what it's like to play that way.

Greg, you're inspiration is part of the mantle of great Stickists. How amazing it is to share in such a great community, your generosity is quiet, confident and always there.

Many Stickist regards

Beautiful tone you have. I told you that before on another song. I also like a lot the inlays of this instrument...I feel it like discretion...lol.
