Jules Shear - Healing Bones (Tony Levin on Stick)
Don't know if there are any Jules Shear fans on here--his voice is pretty divisive, but I just discovered that Tony Levin plays some sweet sweet stick bass on his album Healing Bones, at least on the title track. Also on the track: Rod Argent (The Zombies), Elliot Easton (The Cars) and Peter Van Hooke (Mike + The Mechanics) on drums. Great song.
This is one of the finest specimens of stick bass on a commercial recording I've ever found.

Unparalleled Tony Levin taste. Thanks to share. Shear was unknown to me.

Re: Jules Shear - Healing Bones (Tony Levin on Stick)
Jules Shear has written a few hits for other performers like The Bangles (If She Knew What She Wants) and Cyndi Lauper (All Through The Night). He had a great new wave band called Jules and the Polar Bears (featuring Stephen Hague on keyboards before he became a famous producer). He managed to release a lot of albums considering his vocal limitations (I always thought he sounded a little like Kermit the Frog with a sinus cold).
But the most unique thing about him is how he plays guitar: tuned to an open E chord, he basically frets the guitar with the thumb of his left hand over the neck. And that's the only way he can play. And he's pretty good at it too!
