Post The HANDS Project
Dear community,

I want to introduce you to my current project. It is not Stick-centric, but the Stick is a part of it. It is not music, that you can listen to, but it is music you can see - in a way.

With my HANDS project I portrait musicians. But I did not choose the way of the "usual" portrait- the face of the musician, or the musician with his instrument. I picture the part of the musician that has a significant part on making the tone, playing the note, or initiating the sound - his hands.

I already have pictures of the hands of guitar players, bassists, drummers, trombone players, organ players, and of course some Stickists and tapping instrument players. The list of participating musicians is growing from week to week and I am constantly searching for musicians gigging near me, so I can visit them and take a picture of their hands.

There are already names like David Rhodes, Mike Stern, Stu Hamm, Divinity Roxx, Nils Landgren and other well known instrumentalists on the list, and you will also find Jim Lampi, Youenn Landreau, Ron Baggerman and Mathias Sorof.

My main goal is to exhibit the HANDS pictures in music venues, clubs and music halls. And finally, when there are enough great hands collected, I want to release a book with all the participating musicians.

If you like to see a few of the pictures, please visit the HANDS website at:
http://www.unavailable-light.de/hands/

If you want to stay informed about this ongoing project, please subscribe to the mailing list. You will find a subscription form on the homepage, too.

As an example please find my portrait of Jim Lampis HANDS attached to this post.

All the best,
Marc

Haha, we would, if my name would be Michael Bernier... ;-)
Anyway - working on it...
Marc "not Michael Bernier" Mennigmann

Ha! I guess I should have known there would be a misunderstanding with the way I wrote the first response.

I just meant that I have read some project announcements from both you(Marc Mennigmann) and Ritchie. There always seems to be a list of really great musicians playing along with either of you. And yeah, I guess Michael Bernier is okay too. ;)

Best of wishes on your current work!

Mike

Indeed, I didn't get it!
Thanks - and now I need all the luck in the world. Two big names on my list for this weekend. The holy grail of piano playing. And I dod not get a confirmation for both, yet...
Sometimes management is really in the way of artists. ;)
Best,
M.

Thanks Gene! Yes, T.M.s hands are very expressive. But I love all the subtle features of every pair. So many character, almost like faces...

Cool concept, Marc!

The Ralph Towner hands are pretty amazing - pick hand nails / strum hand none

You could do a stand alone book on Stickists. A good place to start would be STICK CAMP Mallorca. :)

You are absolutely correct, that would be a good start. You are really trying to get me there... ;)

But I think a mixed book, with all musicians united is what I am going to do.

By the way, dear forum members:

Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock will be playing near my hometown this weekend (Philharmonie Essen, July 11). Is there anyone here in the forum who knows them personally? I would love to invite them to my project, but it is impossible to get through their management barrier...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
