Post subject:  Drummer in a box or Laptop?
Hey folks, to those of you that are "Actively" or have Gigged with either a drum machine/pedal or laptop. What do you think worked best for you? I don't need any help with drum loops at home or for practice, this is definitely aimed at gigs!

Suggestions or experiences?

I really like Beat Buddy. Small footprint. Downloadable additions from their site. Reasonable price.

4 legged , two armed, breathing drum machine is best... just don't ask them to screw in lightbulbs!

Hey There,
I've used the drummer in logic to create drum loops of a verse/chorus arrangement of songs. For playing live I load the drum loop into my boss looper pedal and it worked for me pretty well. here is a sample with the drum loop, Stick, Guitar and Keyboards.

I have played with drum machines, keyboard sequencers, backtracks and laptop situations. Not as a tapper, mind you but as one of God's children (guitarist).

I much prefer creating the backtrack in my DAW, ripping it to M4A/MP3 and putting that into my iPod and playing along with that. The Beat Buddy can't be beat, for my money it's the best drum machine that is most easily controlled. I think it would be perfect for you...

Another really cool drum machine is the Boss DR880. Cool grooves, built in sequencer, stellar sounding midi bass and even built in guitar FX from GT6. It runs out of memory quickly, however. Plus, you can't overwrite the existing presets. That sucks. If it could hold a USB or SD card, that would be awesome, but alas...

Anyways, try the beat buddy!

Thanks folks! Sounds like I need to pickup a Beat Buddy.

However, has anyone ever used "Band in a Box"? I watched the demo and it did seem real easy to create arrangements with drum intros and fills etc.. which is what I'm most interested in. Not so sure I could handle real time fills etc.. via Beat Buddy.

Very excited, just got my BeatBuddy Saturday! This thing is awesome and a great tool for not too much cash! Having decent sounding drums that I can vary the tempo and drumset on the fly is going to be a huge help in learning new pieces! (Along with satisfying the tone freak in me!)

Getting the transitions and fills in during practice will also help reinforce my rhythm! Much Fun!
