I bought one of these a few days ago. Like the Linnstrument ....kind of not really... It is a touch surface that has a grid on it like the melody side of the stick. You can pick different scales and it show up as a different grid. Helps to figure out what a harmonic minor scale looks like if you cant figure it out on the stick. I comes with a cool software synth named Equator. Its 5 D touch sensitive. Ive used it with other software synths on in logic. Works great. very small and cheap and modular as well. You can download the noise app and try out the app and see what its like but the little lightpad block is great. im using it this weekend on a 2 hour stick gig,. ( thats on another thread.)

Anyway thought Id post this as a Linnstrument alternative Its not as imporessive as the Linnstrument but its cool

That looks super cool, Rob. I've heard that this thing existed but if not for your posting, I would have missed out on exactly what the Block can do. And at less than $200, it's not even that expensive.

Here was the whole Blocks lineup:

I might pick up a Lightpad to start! Looks both fun and useful! I like the part at the very end where he used one Block as just a 3-way expression controller. That got me right there! Let me poke around and watch some more videos. Thanks, again, Rob! Good luck on your Stick gig!

This video was pretty cool to show you what you can do in terms of chords and melodies:

I'm sold. I'll get at least one to start with. I can jam at this in my office at work.

Lol didn't mean for you to spend more money. I'm happy with mine. I want to get the seaboard block next. Super small and portable these things are. Very expressive for sure. At some point I'll do a video using it and Stick.

I've looked at the Roli, for a long time, especially the full size one. But I could never justify the expense for it.

But the Lightpad is a nice piece of gear that I can use with my IOS devices, and seems very multi-purpose. Also, I get one Lightpad, then I get another, then add a controller block or two, and then the 2-octave keyboard Seaboard Block is only another $300... okay, being modular might make it addictive. And expensive. Those little bits add up.

The Lightpad is something I'm sure my kids will play with as well. The Noise App seems useful, and I'm sure there's other uses I can use for this, like syncing with my MacBook Pro as another MIDI controller.

Now I'm looking at the Seaboard Block, $300.

This video does not suck. Hmmm. A Lightpad and a Seaboard Block together runs $479.90 from Sweetwater.

Adds: the Lightpad is just a 16-note MIDI pad controller, like my NI Maschine. Except there's one big pad that lights up into 16 different pads. That you can slide back and forth and through and across. And minus a bunch of knobs. And other pads. Anyway--it's not gonna replace the Machine, and mine is 5 years old now. But I'm still open to the idea of the Lightpad. And a Seaboard. Or 4. ;)

I had $500 to blow on my summer music budget, and thankfully, the wife didn't count Interlochen in that. Labor Day came and went...and then Rob popped up about Blocks.

I picked up the Seaboard Block and the Lightpad Block together for $479.90, free shipping, from Sweetwater. Anything under $500 doesn't have to be cleared with the wife. And maybe I'll have that LinnStrument for Christmas, if I can keep to the budget. Or put it on the Sweetwater card, and keep it moving.

My kids keep pushing me to do more electronic stuff. We can have more fun together with the Blocks than the LinnStrument.

And a Roli Seaboard Grand is $3000. Why wouldn't you just buy 3 24-note blocks for $900 and click them together? Am I missing something? Any Grand users?

I have not tried the Seaboard Block, but I’ve used the RISE and the Grand (and I have tried the other Blocks).

The Seaboard Block appears to have smaller and different “keys”. They look a bit more squared off, although that could just be the picture on their site. The key size seems more similar to mini-keys (where the RISE and Grand would be more like regular sized keys).

The RISE series is built into hunk of metal, they feel really solid (likewise with the Grand). The RISE series also has additional controllers built in. The Grands have a built-in sound engine (although without the RISE’s controllers).

Roli gives you a bunch of options across the Seaboard models. I really like their Equator software and Seaboard 5D app.

i figured id get two seaboards because they are cheaper. some day. Im glad Im not the only one who want to keep acquiring gear. I cant resist a music store.

Why is it that too much is never enough?

I've seen more and more Seaboard videos now. My Lightpad comes later today and I plan to do an unboxing video and a quick review.

Sweetwater was temporarily out out the Seaboard Block, which should come in next week. I'll give that a try, and an unboxing and review as well.

I'm really liking what I've seen on both the LinnStrument and the Seaboard. I'm going to take that chance on a Seaboard Block and see if I like it. Then I'll have to decide between the Seaboard Rise 49 for a grand or the LinnStrument for a grand and a half.
