That's got to be coming from your background playing Alto at APHS
You must be picking up the fine details of his playing having played sax youself. Years back I saw him play live on TV, forgot what the show was, but he was so bad I almost puked. He wasn't holding any notes, just squealing out jibberish that made no musical sense whatsoever. I was really bummed, as I was stoked beforehand to see him play. I have one of his live albums, as well as some of Miller's he plays on. I've always enjoyed his tunes otherwise.
On a side note a couple weeks ago I got to play my Stick in a bass role with Oz, Kenny on drums, and Dave Gilbert on sax. It was pretty cool playing with a saxophonist. I haven't played a sax since 1985, it was cool actually backing up someone as good as Pete. He has a curved soprano which is something I don't see too much of anymore; I'm thinking Kenny G's popularity killed off that style. Everyone now wants a straight one.
I had Dave play his soprano through my Fishman Loudbox, as it has a mic input. Turned up some reverb and it sounded really good. Unfortunately I couldn't set it up so we could both use it. That little amp has a thousand uses.
