David Torn is one of the world's most notable loopers. He has also been paramount in the development of the technology. You can hear many examples of his eclectic guitar style and looping on several recordings, many of which are in a band context. His 80's album, Cloud About Mercury features Tony Levin on Stick and Bill Bruford on electronic percussion. One of my faves.

Thinking about it, he already has, with his multi-tracked Acapella recordings. He's just not doing it in a "real time" performance with a looping device.

It was started by Matthias Grob, one of the pioneers of live looping and inventor of the Echoplex digital pro, one of the most powerful looping devices.

I'm looping my Stick quite often, "The Four Ages of Sand" on my Myspace page is an example of a looped Stick piece.

Feist did some killer vocal looping toward the end of her set when I saw her live a few years back.
