Post FAVORITE MOVIE THAT IF ON TV, YOU STOP AND WATCH
ah, you see a trend here,

Is there a MOVIE that if on TV you start to catch part of while channel surfing, and you just leave it alone, and watch it to the final credits.

and if you are so bold, what sways you to capture your attention to forsake all else, spend you time you think in a wise fashion, to remain fixated to the cathode ray screen ( Dr. Brian O'Blivion from CANADIAN [FHF theme this month] director David Cronenberg)
“The television screen is the retina of the mind’s eye. Therefore the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore television is reality. And reality is less than television.”

Mine is Purple Rain by Prince and recently Deathproof by Quentin Tarrentino, both stark visuals and a feel and a groove to both. Quentin actually finds the songs he wants first, and then produces and writes the visuals. Purple Rain because it is the movie that gives hope that if you remain true to yourself, you will succeed in spite of all difficulties, and there are some serious jams and very angular tunes. Enough to influence a new beat ( off set snare on When Doves Cry) and give the only artist in Warner Brother's History his own soundstage and COMPLETE creative freedom.

so bold ones, come forward and please do tell....
Dave Brosky

OK, here are a few:

1) Midnight Cowboy - the first (and only) X-rated film to win an Oscar...

2) Rear Window - classic Hitchcock...and Grace Kelly, complete and total hotness without having to show any skin at all.

3) Spun - I have always had an affinity for the drug addiction "how low can you go" movies. This is one of the best. The director builds in some animated sequences to reflect what it might be like to be on Meth...pretty creepy. After watching I always feel like I need to take a shower, and I'm glad I'm not a Meth head

4) Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr. - This is an Errol Morris film. The rise of a nobody who becomes a star witness at a trial and proves why he is a nobody. Errol Morris is the Woddy Allen of Documentary. Amazing stuff.

I'm not ashamed to admit that, for me, it's very often "Dumb & Dumber".

Anything remotely J.R.R. Tolkien, Heavy Metal, occasionally Braveheart and Wizards. The latter of which was a really far out 70's animated psychedelic movie where it all kinda started.

How about this? Movies that in your heart of hearts you know are awful but for some reason you always watch.

Independence Day. So many holes and cliches. Jeff Goldblum killed the aliens with a Windows virus? Oh the stupidity ... but for some reason I always watch if it's on.

Twister. Same deal. Ridiculous movie. Holes the size of the Grand Canyon. Some incredibly dumb dialog. And yet ...

The Day After Tomorrow. Let me get this straight. It's too late for everyone north of Kentucky. They're all goners. But I am going to walk to NYC to save my son? Puleeeeez! So stupid! But I can't look away.

Camelot, West side story, brigadoon, paint your wagon.

But it's been years since I had the time for this indulgence

This one's easy for me. The Life of Brian. Not as a sociological or religious commentary, just a funny movie.

Cheers
Eric

For me it would be The Big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, Key Largo, Casablanca - hmm, I spot a trend here!

Black and White, great dialogue, Humphrey Bogart, gets me every time :D
