Post Progress?!?!? (Watch at your peril...)

Well, the above vid is a sort of independence exercise I stole from a cool Canadian Rock band called "The Tragically Hip" The tune is of course, New Orleans is Sinking and it was a real challenge; I am not able to play it to tempo just yet, and some compromises on the melody had to be made just to "make it" That's okay, because I will come back and refine it as i get more familiar and comfortable with it. It really became obvious to me just how well one needs to know each part separately in order to play the parts together, and even though I got each part separately to the point of not having to look at the neck, it all goes out the window and you almost have to start from scratch to piece the two together. Anyways, more on this tune later, I thought y'all could use a laugh is all...

This one took a while to learn, and it's only the first bit of a particularly ugly Carlos Santana tune called "Europa". It's my "Stairway to Autumn Leaves" if you will, and man was it tough. Carlos Santana is a frickin' monster! Anyways, I learned the whole tune on melody side only, but this is really as far as I have gotten with both hands. One hand only, I learned the tune in an hour or two. Try and add two hands and it's like doing two trigonometry equations simultaneously. Steve A was kind enough to walk me through this, but yeah it needs a lot of work! Good thing I'm a practicer, lol! Getting this bit together so that I could play it a few times in a row without completely killing it has taken me well over a month. All good, I'm starting to develop a bit more patience, hahaha

Anyways, I'm getting there... Enjoy!

Dooder...now thats some progress! Think about three months ago give or take.....then look at this!

The Hip tune was really good man! And I already told ya Europa was nice and smooth too....
Breakthroughs every day bro'. And each new breakthrough is like a new brick laid when you are building your house. After a while you look around and your house is getting bigger.

Ya know.....dont be shy to throw it in the showcase subfolder.

cheers,
kev

getting better and better every day... You're an inspiration Scott. I totally agree with everything Kevin wrote! I'm thinking that working with the stick takes so much practice time that, by the time Mr. Alzheimer comes to visit, this will be so heavilly in our DNA that even he won't be abble to erase it from our memories ;)
Cheers

Damn, Scott, the Santanna already sounds awesome! I can't wait to see both snippets developed. You're my inspiration on getting better!

Hey guys, thanks for checking it out! Yeah, both of these represent not just a step up for me in technical execution, but also in my learning methodology.

Having a gameplan and sticking to it really helps...

More to come guys!

Hey Jayesskerr, wonderful showing! :!: Hopefully constrictive criticism--I hope someday to see your right hand(arm, really) playing with the freedom, confidence, passion and energy that your left arm does. I think even our ears would notice! But still, well done and keep on keepin' on!

Mike
