Post Playing low B in Classic
Hi Peeps.

I have a fetish for playing the low B as an open string, but the big problem is that I have classic tuning and I'm not keen on bringing everything down a semitone.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure our stick engineering caters SA..? I'm happy to be wrong about it. :)

Maybe one day an NS...

Why not an altered tuning where you just retune that particular string to where you need it? I've been getting drilled in the last couple of years attending guitar seminars showing various tunings. I did that quite often on my four string bass, I often liked droning a low D. Cool thing about the NS is that trick Gary Jibilian showed where you can twist the damper and let half of the strings ring out while the other half are muted.

Due to my observation, Michael Manring is not human. Helios.Michael, Michael Michael.

Either he's superhuman, or I'm subhuman, definitely not at the same level of evolution. :)

Low B is a lovely fetish, dictated by the bass guitar's default tuning, which is dictated by the guitar's default tuning,...

Whereas Low C is an orchestral foundation!

Default lies not within our scales but within our amps.... show me a stereo that can reproduce low B with ease, and I'll show you a very expensive stereo...

Seriously, though, if you have a 36"-scale Stick you can pluck the open low B without too much trouble when you need it...

The ex audio engineer in me had a similar thought. :D

That reminds me of a funny story: a few years ago when I had just purchased my 5 string bass and was doing a Soundcheck at the London symphony Orchestra hall, the sound guy (won't call him engineer) kept saying to me to hit that low string hard... just to see how it sounded ... witch I did... just so hear him say afterwards: "I think we just blew the left side speaker"... not a funny experience for me!
