Post New Lesson Video: Motion, repeated notes and The Stick Book
Hi everyone,

There's a new video on the youtube/stickplayers channel that shows how the hand-movement concept I'm always talking about applies to repeated notes, and several lessons from The Stick Book™. The written exercises themselves are shown in the video and there's a brief explanation of StaffTab™ as well. Hope you find it useful:

Greg..!

This is such a generous offering and what a great way to come back to your book.
I love the physical description of the hand movements, unreal.

Between yours and Bob C's new videos there's so much to be inspired by and work towards.

Stickist regards.

Thanks for the "free Lesson" Greg! I have your book, I'm going to have to dig it out and get back into the nuts and bolts of playing the Stick. Maybe THIS time I'll actually absorb some of the information!!! :D

Hi Konrad,

I've been trying to explain the hand-movement concept in words for so long, this seemed like easiest way to get the point across.

Glad you like it.

Key points:

1. Move along the string, not "up and down"
2. Keep the hand relaxed, not stretched out
3, Don't anchor the thumb, let it move with the hand.

Please spread the word about the video wherever tappers hang out. ;)

Great to hear from you, Mac. I hope I get back to France to visit with the AFSTG again soon.

You're welcome, Ray,

I can only thank my students for steering me toward the insights about movement. Keep the feedback coming and we'll advance the art together.

It's a shame there isn't a supplemental DVD to go with the Stick Book. Your clear, concise lessons combined with quality presentation would surely make it a best seller.

This is outstanding, Greg! The production quality, the design, the angles, and the instruction, are just great. I have had two seminars with you, and I thought nothing would come close to having you show these concepts live and in person. I hope this video is a teaser for a new series that will be available with the book. It comes as close as I think possible to having Greg standing next to you. This will be a huge resource for beginners and the rest of us alike. It appears to me that you must have experimented and fiddled with the recording and production techniques a lot. The quality really shows. I recommend that everyone download the full HD video and watch it on a large screen with a good sound system.

Kudos from an old dog that you have taught many new tricks to.

See you in August!

-Eric

Thanks to Eric and Karma and Godsmonkey for the votes of confidence.

If I had all the time in the world I would definitely do what you are suggesting.
But, since there is already the Stick Book Companion Audio CD set...

...I just think I would rather focus on making a DVD of new material, based on some of the more recent lesson concepts I've been developing.

Making this video taught me a lot about adding graphic content, so I think I'm just about ready to start shooting my instructional DVDs.

They will probably not include StaffTab, but will include some graphic tabs and standard notation so they will be more universal in how they apply to the various tunings.
