Post New bass + chords independence exercise video from Greg
Hi everyone,

I just posted a new video to YouTube that explores bassline placement in relation to right hand chords. The exercise itself is very simple in concept, and it is shown at fast and slow tempos to make it easier for you to work on it.

The exercise is new, but it expands on some of the material from the "Basic Free Hands Technique" DVD.

I'm trying out some new graphic concepts in the video, and I'd be grateful for any feedback you can provide, positive or negative. Your input will help shape how my video instruction will appear in the future.

Very clear! The top camera is clever, a view from the player. The chord shapes are nice too but gone a bit soon... It's good to see the notes in real time. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Vostor, your comments are noted. I'll try to slow things down a bit. I guess I always know in the back of my head that people, can pause the video...

Thanks Randy and Yannick for your comments as well.

Any criticisms of the video are greatly appreciated (positiive and negative)

Really, I play a lot of Reggae, and the feel that you have on the video is great.... I am using the Stick more and more for Reggae and World Music.... When you combine the Stick w/ playing with hand percussionist, Djembe, conga's, cajon, etc, it can be really hot!!!! FUN! FUN! FUN!..

Currently, I am taking Djembe patterns and applying them to tapping on the Stick... interesting.

I really appreciate the "up/down" arrows. Helps to better follow the lesson. Good job!

That's excellent thanks - the two camera angles really helps. Minor comments, bordering on the nitpicking:

1) Perhaps the fret marker numbers could be clearer - just a different, or bold version, font?

2) Am I correct that the 'beat' number digits appear be set to fade in and out, albeit quickly? If so, I feel that switching the fade off might make the beat feel more precise? Maybe it's just my eyes, but the beat number seems to fractionally lag the sound (or where the soiund would be if there was one...).

Thanks for the feedback, Max.

I'll probably also record metronome pulses when I do future videos, which will make it easier to sync the beat numbers. I'll try switching the fade off next time and see what happens.

The fret numbers are the same style I used in the DVD. my instinct is to keep them fairly subdued as there can be a lot of information on the screen, but I'll see what happens if I brighten them up.

Is it a good idea to use the StaffTab noteheads? or would it be better to use normal notation?
Any thoughts?
