Post Helpful idea # 347
Most of the time our left hand chord accompaniment is in the low register of the bass side of The Stick.
if you play the same chord shape back two frets and over two strings your harmony will now ring one octave higher. If you play a different but fitting chord on the treble side with the right hand, the voicings will be close and give a truly interesting harmonic flavor.
I.e.
Play Cmi on high bass strings and play Bb Maj simultaneously with the right hand on the treble side. The resulting Cmi11 will sound spectacular.

I've been doing this kind of thing with shapes - on your suggestion - and it is wonderful.

Thanks Steve...I can feel a cluster position with the LH at the octave and a spread position with the LH an octave lower. Nice.

Post Re: Helpful idea # 347 about this at the moment
Steve, it's times like these that I wished I'd gone for a Grand Stick instead of my 10-string! I'm working through the chapter in your book at the moment, and the lack of a sixth string means playing 5 frets up rather than 2 back, and my hands are too close together.
Never mind, I'll keep this idea until my new SG-12 arrives, these polychords will sound fantastic on it :)

I have a 10-string. The idea does create a cluster of fingers, but taking the shapes and moving them around the board does create some real sonic magic.

These types of double chords do shine bright on the Stick. Thanks for the continued tips and ideas.

Hey Lee Vatip,

I have been so psyched over the years, reading about your ideas on playing the Stick, from the old Stickwire years. I even once compiled all of your emails and kept them offline, but I've since lost track of them.

Later on, seeing you play in your videos, it made me realize that you weren't just whistling Dixie - you play so beautifully, and your free-spirited ideas on approaching the instrument have added to your abilities so much. It makes me feel pedestrian by comparison.

Anyway, I was wondering if you have compiled all 300-some-odd of these ideas of yours? I'd love to see them all in one document, or webpage, or whatever.

thanks, R
