The tapping itself is very light... The strings are much looser and longer, so very little effort is needed to play. You pretty much can just sort of touch the string and it makes sound. And yes you can do pull offs...

Have you seen Greg's "Meet The Pickups" video? He plays overdriven and distorted parts on both melody and bass sides of the stick, with every combination of every pickup.

And it's very satisfying to play the stick through distortion, although it does sound different from a guitar.

It is really important to develop the right technique in the attack and release of the string first. I would focus on getting a good clean sound first, using hand movement and getting accurate on hitting the sweet spot at the rail.

Hey Scott,

you can't imagine how fantastic is the Railboard,
when it comes , you discover that it's like a formula1 vehicle !

only a question: what color?,and MIDI yes/no?

(mine is a dark green one ,
but i also have another jewel ,
a rosewood stick with MIDI,they are
the best instruments i've never dream of !i love them!)

if you have any question, you only have to do!
bye,the wait is the hardest part! :D
Gianni.

You can tape how every you want. Tap and hold so the note sustains or short taps for staccato. If you tap fingers in order 1 2 3 4, you don't want to hold down each finger. You tap 1, lift it, then 2, lift it and so on. Trills and pull offs are acceptable techniques, but I'd work on the basic tapping first. Does that help?

To get a better position on your right hand, move your guitar neck up to more on an angle. If you are sitting and resting the guitar on your right knee, try resting it on your left knee. Either way, bring the headstock up to a more Stick like angle in order to get a better position of your right hand. If in doubt, look at pictures of people with Stick, and try and imitate that angle when you hold the guitar.

Pertaining to your second question......
Although some believe otherwise, the use of four fingers is the most efficient technique to play scales, melodies and improvs of any genre. It eventually has to do with muscle memory and allowing your fingers the freedom to play what's in your head.
For real.

Part of the Stick's action, tone, and feel also comes from the fact that the strings are tuned much lower compared to a guitar, so if you want to approximate the experience a little further, tune that axe way down.
For me, I've found that using 4 fingers in the left hand and 3 in the right works. My pinkies are just not long enough to be effective on the melody side.

Fun to read peeps guidance here, as always.

Unfortunately, that wait you are experiencing is the best thing that could happen. Internalizing this prior to having the instrument will help to define how YOU will approach the instrument.

I expect you will have answers to your questions within the first 5 minutes of picking up and plugging in your Railboard. There will be more though - what tuning, what amp, what pedal.

Here is a clip from Giancarlo to keep you going till your Railboard shows up!
