Greg Howard's Staff Tab in Sibelius?
Hey guys,
I've got Greg's book on Stick playing, and I really like his method of notation. I believe he used Finale to get the note heads they way he wanted, and to put the lines on the staff to indicate the strings.
Is there a way to do this in Sibelius? I'm using version 6 and haven't figured out yet how to get custom note heads. (And I don't want to learn Finale - it took me a long time to figure out Sibelius.)
Thanks, R

H Rodan.
I use Sibelius all the time, Sib 7 First.
I could try doing a little video called Sibelius for Stickists after this week. I'm currently cramming for exams.
Cheers
PS. note heads . Just go to "Notations" and chose "Type". If you go all the way down the drop bar you should find our fav Staff Tab note heads . If Sib 6 is different, just look around the notations somewhere and you should be able to find it.

Hi Rodan and Rad,
I'm very interested in finding out more about your implementation of StaffTab in Sibelius. Several folks I know have recently gotten into it on Finale as well.
Emmett and I developed the system together when I was working on my first book, with a different graphical or numeric dimension for each element of finger, string and place.
For Finale the special tools are used to change the noteheads, the articulations are used (like accent marks etc) to create the string markers, and the lyrics are used for the fret numbers.
Looking forward to seeing where this takes you.

Re: Greg Howard's Staff Tab in Sibelius?
I've been looking around in Sibelius 6, and I can't find a Notations Menu. The Handbook and Reference manuals give a lot of information on altered note- heads, but none specifically for the types that Emmett and Greg rely on. Sibelius 6 is great with adjustable tablature, and I have used them in the past. Maybe I'll go back to that for my own use. So to use Greg's notation I'll have to upgrade to Sibelius 7 (I can't face learning Finale - maybe when my kid is grown R

Rodan, was the Sebelius version you were trying to use a "light" version? I remember buying Finale's cheaper "PrintMusic" software, only to find out that changing note heads and other features were not available. I had to upgrade to Finale proper. Maybe the case is the same for you. In any event, ask someone about being able to change note heads and things before you put your money down for 7.

Re: Greg Howard's Staff Tab in Sibelius?
I've got the full-featured version of Sibelius 6.
Since I couldn't jump into Greg's notation I've rigged up a tablature of sorts. I got into Instruments (I) and modified one of the Electric Guitar selections into three different Chapman Stick instruments: one on grand staff, with notation; one in tab, for the treble strings; and one in tab, for the bass strings. Then I select all three into a score, and make sure the treble tab is above the grand staff, and the bass tab is below. Anything I put on either treble or bass clefs can be copied directly into tablature. That way I get rid of the ambiguity that comes with standard notation (i.e. where are you playing that note?)
There are more notation options for hammer-ons and pull-offs, bends, and such, but I haven't learned those yet.

Hi Gents.
Here's little something in case you were trying to negotiate staff tab on Sibelius . I hope it saves you a bit of pain.
