@Kataway.... I made some of them, a couple percussionists I play with made some.... iTunes has a great record called World Masters Beat the Drum, African Drums and Soukous... really great to practice by. Also, the great percussionist Mino Cinelu (weather report, Kate Bush) has a great suite of rhythms that I like @ thelooploft.com.... great stuff....

You make me think about some friends around where I live. Some of these guys have been in Africa and they know a lot about these rythms. Maybe they could record some loops for me. That'd be great. Good day...

I work through my song list then work on my latest number for equally as long. I dont practice scale type stuff (real musicians are cringing right now).......I then spend time just exploring comets. I am trying to read more on theory these days though.... cheers, kev

I learned on guitar but after few years I was writing for big bands because I put a lot of time on theory. I'm happy about that 'cause later I applied this knowledge to other instruments I wanted to learn...piano, stick, bass, cello...

Scale practice develops muscle and aural memory. And dexterity. As does practicing chord progressions. Not a bad thing if done attentively.

I'm thinking some reading will have to be incorporated also. I might Start a Youtube Channel devoted to Stick practice and progress as a journal of sorts...

After I get the mixer that I discussed recently, I plan to host relatively open practice sessions on Google+ (Stickists who are interested will be invited, just to avoid "dude, what is THAT?" in the middle of practice).
