Jayesskerr,
Yup  laughing... with amazement!
I've had my stick about 10 days, no previous experience on a stringed instrument at all. I'm still trying to figure out where all the notes are on the fretboard, and which notes make up chords, and then where to play them! I've been diligently trying my hand(s) at this for 3-4 hours every night!
I should be able to do what you did in a year or two... GAAK! I might need to go hit my drums for a while hahaha!

I must have watched the wrong video. You said you were a noob and I should be laughing.

This is my progress:

Let the laughing ensue.

Give yourself some credit. You have a good knowledge of FX and how to touch the board tonally, and didn't get lost very much. People with much more experience have done worse.

Hey Scott,

You've got great rhythm chops so far and a nice sense of switching you attention back and forth between the hands.

You might find the left hand chord fingerings shown in this video to be more comfortable, especially for your left wrist:

Except for the diminished triad and half-diminished 7th, all the fingerings shown fit the shapes of the chords to the shape of the hand with much less finger-bending than the 2-1-3 and 2-1-4 fingerings.

Just something to try. To each his own.

Excellent. Many will wish they could make this kind of progress this quickly. You are adding data to the theory that drummers seem to take to the Stick more quickly than some. Us guitar players have a lot of brain and muscle habits to undo that drummers get to skip. Piano players have this advantage too, it seems.

Kudos and keep it going.

I can listen a bit of myself the way you play your stick. I think you should be careful about your neck (your neck and not the instrument's neck...lol)...play having your instrument inside your head and look less at your instrument's neck. Otherwise you could experiment pain in your neck...the stick will never feel this pain...lol.

Usual disclaimer; Rock guy, and I'm a noob so my chord vocabulary on this instrument is still a work in progress. I think you can actually see my poor little brain "shut down" in spots as I try to shift chords and scalar patterns. When I try to "self accompany" which is my most important goal, I run out of RAM hahaha

This quote - Me to a T my friend!

I think you're doing great - you sound good! You are definitely where I'd love to be in a few more months (I'm at about a month now). I think your playing sounds great.

I'm still getting up to speed, quite literally on the right hand scaling, and I am still getting comfortable with with my left hand placement (I think I will take a look at Greg's video tonight). I've been experimenting with two-handed chord arpeggios, which has been extremely fun.

Although I have looked over and played some melody and bass lines, separately, to some tunes in practice, I plan to (finally) really start attempting a few bass/melody covers that I have available to me (such as Emmett's Yesterday).

Again, great job here!

That's a cool improv, Scott. I enjoyed watching/listening.
And like the others, I think you can give yourself a break as far as your playing is concerned. No need for such harsh self-deprecation, really!
Were you thinking about leaving this as it is, as sort of a historical marker, or were you thinking about developing more of an arrangement around it?
