Kev, If you play an add9

R
5
9

all at the same fret, the notes are the same, but the effect is not. The sus2 souns the way it does by virtue of the proximity of the notes.

you can play an inversion of it like so

Code:
5 | - | - | -
2 | - | - | -
- | - | - | 1

but it is a stretch on the frets closer to the nut. This is the shape I use to play the chord on the melody side..

And if you want the 5th on top and you have 4 strings available on the bass side, try this one:

Code:
- | - | 1 | -
- | - | - | -
- | - | 9 | -
5 | - | - | -

Hey thx Greg, example 2 is the closest I can get. Ya the add9 just doesnt do it. I guess on a piano it would be easy cause you can get that second while the F is ringing off....

thx,
kev

cheers.

On the right hand you just use that second shape. It's my favorite chord I think. I use it all the time!
