Midi...who uses it?
Ok. .so who here made the jump to midi?
What kind of cool things have you been able to do. ..or its it not all is cracked up to be?
Does it track well or lag like a lot of midi pickups?
Thanks

Re: Midi...who uses it?
If you are running a computer based MIDI system, you will find that it's the audio interface that is responsible for most of your latency. If you can get an ASIO driver for your audio interface, then the software application talks directly to the interface and the latency is reduced substantially. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Stream_Input/OutputFollowing this logic, that Yamaha/Steinberg created the protocol, I investigated the possibility that they may have their own audio interfaces. I purchased the UR44 and I'm very satisfied with the outcome. http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/audio_interfaces/ur_series/models/ur44.htmlThomas_Powers wrote: Ok. .so who here made the jump to midi? Re: Midi...who uses it?
I did the opposite - stopped using MIDI with the Stick. The reason is that I found it more musically satisfying to work with the pure string/pickup output and process that in order to create unusual and inspiring sounds.
My first two Sticks had Roland GK pickups and I used a GR-50 as sound module. That's a way to get good triggering and minimal latency. I combined that with computer based MIDI sound sources as well. When the latency is high you can use sounds with slow attack that you keep filling up behind the real string sound of the Stick, so latency isn't always a problem.
Now I have sold the GK pickups of my Sticks but I do use MIDI a lot, just not with the Stick. I play the Ableton Push pad and the EWI for those sounds.

I've experienced the same thing, but MIDI keeps sucking me back into the realm of unlimited expression. http://8dio.com/instrument-map/Per Boysen wrote: I did the opposite - stopped using MIDI with the Stick. Re: Midi...who uses it?
I use it, but not the "intended" way. At the moment, I use the GK3 and the GR55 as a sort of "routing" matrix. I have a VG99 on the way, too...
The Roland GR55 tracks really well, better than with a guitar in my opinion. The GK3 pickup makes it so I can go ONE cable to the GR55 from the Stick. The GR55 then goes from the stereo out to my amp, and the bass side goes out of the "gtr out" into a separate bass amp.
Pretty fun. But... There are some things about the GR55 I don't like; I might end up running 2 cables and having the GR55 supply only midi tones. I don't like cosm too much...

Re: Midi...who uses it?
I believe that we will not need the "midi" pickup in the near future and will make a whole world of sounds more accessible to everyone. There are several companies making polyphonic pedals which create keyboard, organ, synth sounds and other effects through a single guitar cable. (EHX B9, C9, Key9, Digitech Whammy, Boss SY-300) I believe that there is already software that can detect all the notes from a recording and into Midi information as well. I'm pretty confident that in the very near future there will be polyphonic versions of the Sonuus B2M and G2M. I, personally, have not delved into midi yet. I have always had plans to do so in the back of my head but there are other things I want to use my money for at this time. Plus... my pedalboard is out of space and no room for a midi setup at this time... With the advancements we are seeing in synth/keys/effects pedals and midi interfaces I think it won't be too long until I have something on my pedalboard.

Re: Midi...who uses it?
I don't use Midi, but I recall hearing Kevin Keith say that he uses Midi to isolate strings to enable getting different sounds through different strings on the same side of the instrument.

Re: Midi...who uses it?
Hey peeps. I found a product that might just make the midi pick ups obsolete. Look for Jam Origin on the web. (sorry I havent figured out how to link anything here yet) Apparently this is a computer program that tracks the note either single or polyphonic and converts to mid with no midi interface. You plug straight into your audio interface. Ive seen videos and it looks promising. I agree with Dean that its a matter of time that this technology gets perfected. I think you can even download a trial version but Im not sure. If any one is using this let me or us know how it works
