Another option is the Fishman TriplePlay wireless MIDI system.
I have one, but I haven't tested it on a Stick yet.

Does Stick Enterprises support installing the Fishman wireless? That actually looks pretty cool--although it seems a bit bulky. It's around $399 as well. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TriplePlayPU/

Adds: List of free software that Sweetwater throws in with it as well:
Native Instruments – KOMPLETE Elements and GuitarRig LE
    Notion Music – PROGRESSION 2
IK Multimedia – SampleTank 2 XT and AmpliTube Custom Shop
PreSonus – Studio One Artist TriplePlay Edition
    PRO-TRP-301
I like that it's wireless and all-in-one--I don't need a separate analog to MIDI converter.

I seem to remember a couple of Youtube videos of a Stickist installing the Fishman on their Railboard, but I seem to remember some heavy-duty drilling or machining.

The GK-3 is not a direct MIDI device. It's a divided pickup with 13 wires.
You will have to use a synth to convert this analog information to MIDI.

You don't need a synth. Roland has made products that strictly do GK to MIDI conversion that you can probably find used (the GI-10 and GI-20, both half rack units). I believe there were one or two third party units along the way as well. Generally when I'm in a MIDI Stick phase, I just have a GI-20 in my rig and use it to drive software synths.

At one point I had a GI-20 and Roland XV-2020 synth module in my rig. Both were half rack units so between them I had one rack space of synthy goodness that I controlled with my MIDI foot controller. That is the same setup Tom Griesgraber is using currently.

GI-20 is around $200-250 used. That sounds better than $700. But I'm willing to spend that and more on a good product--just not right now, yet. Great suggestions from everyone so far; glad I posted this.

I think there is an obsolete midi converter axon 100mk2 i think you can still get them on ebay. I saw one in a store here used for 200 bucks. I dont know how well it works. I know i was researching for the exact same reason. I elected to cancel my gk3 for now as being canadian the exchange rate taxes and duty or not favourable for me

I'm really waffling on the GK-3 pickups now. I don't want to miss out on the opportunity to get something MIDI professionally installed, but I don't know that I want to spend $1400 (GK-3 for $600 installed and GK-55 new for $799 on top of the $2500 for a Railboard) to get MIDI, when I can play keyboards already.

It's a lot of money and something that you need to think about.
The GR-55 and GK-3 pickups are on eBay all the time.

Modifying the pickup spacing for a Stick can be tricky,
but having said that, it's not out of the scope for a DIY guy.
I've attached a photo of what the pickup looks like outside of it's shell.

Are we talking re-spacing the pickups and then re-soldering them kind of DIY? Which is within my abilities but maybe further than I wanted to go.

But I've seen GK-3 and GR-55 combos for less than $700 and that's new prices. Is this something I can legitimately add myself later?

Post Re: Stick MIDI strategy--good guitar synth to go with GK-3
I've added a second photo to my other post.
It shows my Stick string spacing at 3/10 of an inch.
The GK-3 pickup spacing is at 4/10 of an inch.

There are only 7 wires to configure on the pickup side.
All pickups share the same signal return wire.
In my case, I only need 6 wires for my five melody strings.

I intend to remove my individual pickups and set them into a mold.
They will be positioned with the proper spacing, before applying epoxy.
The end result will be an epoxy block with the pickups set in place.

There's a bit more to this, but you get the idea.
It's not rocket science, but it's not for everyone either.
As a DIY hobbyist, all sorts of things get created.

That's within my abilities but more effort than I'd like to expend. Maybe I'll live with Emmett installing the GK-3, and then save up for any actual MIDI enabling hardware. Or just say forget MIDI for now. It's too expensive and too much of a hassle for someone who can already play the keyboards.

What about the Fishman Triple Play? Hard to install on a Railboard?

Edits to add: viewtopic.php?f=2&p=84520
Found that conversation about the Fishman, which WerkSpace was part of. I'm reading through it.

If you do that, please make a post about it and include pictures. That would be very cool to see.
