Hi Peeps.

This vid just might be the most helpful piece of instruction that you will see in any given year.

Enjoy!

Good lesson it also works with dominant and minor 7th chords so in c c7 c-7 Eb7 Eb-7, F#7. F#-7, A7 A-7. And it's great for outside comping and im not sure if he mentioned that the main use for this stuff is over a dominant 7th chord so C7 in his example.

Yes! and C7b9, Eb7b9, F#7b9, A7b9.

My old composition prof Rodney Rogers at LSU used to turn us loose on the diminished scale (aka Octatonic, mode of limited transposition ala Messaien) to see what we'd do with it. Every student found new uses of the scale, every year he gave the assignment.

Ah, youth...

Yeah Gents!

I love the jazz and classical crossover you mentioned. The thing I find is that this approach not only gets me thinking of naming the notes accurately but the sounds also inspire my ear to want to do the same.

Patitucci..... "without signing your name...diminished" Still getting a kick out of that.
