Very hard metal coatings now available for the Railboard®
The new brushed texture metal plasma coatings are now in regular production for the Railboard. There are three colors to choose from: "gold", "nickel", "gunmetal". Read all about it at, and see detail pics of all three colors at: http://www.stick.com/instruments/railboard/metallized/

I'm still looking forward to a 12 string railboard...

Very cool. I like the gunmetal. I was not a big fan of the Railboard when I tried it a few years ago. However, now with more experience, especially playing 10 string, I hope to give it another try. Maybe I can borrow one for a bit at Van Stick?

Gunmetal! if you thought getting a Stick past TSA and as carry-on was tough before......"no really it's a 10 string tapping... yes tapping, no you don't use a pick, tapping instrument. I know you never saw it at Guitar Center....King Crimson, no?.... I bet you were listening to Air Supply! " about this time they are putting the cable ties on your wrists and you are watching your departing flight take off! They look cool! Dave B "DBro"

Re: Very hard metal coatings now available for the Railboard
I love the sound of the railboard, and would love to see a 12-string.. One thing that has bugged me about the aluminum construction is a memory I have of the "Applause" guitars that were made by ovation. These had a one piece aluminum neck. The first thing to go were the frets.. Arguably the pressures used on a stick compared to a guitar are less, so less wear on the fret surfaces, but it was one of the things that bugged me. It's good to see a step in the right direction!

Those look amazing! What's your favorite of those finishes? I am leaning towards the gunmetal.
There are many of us who will only consider a 12-string Railboard. However, after noting the weight of a 10-string Railboard I think a 12 will be heavier than I want in a Stick. I really need to go the other way at this point in my life and will probably get a bamboo or mahagony.

I already have 12-stringed so a 10-stringed would be fun to try - if I should suddenly become rich I will buy a chrome styled. Wondering what this hard coating makes them sound like?

The difference between the Railboard and those old Ovations is the anodization of the Railboard's frets create a very hard surface which will not deform. Quite fantastic really.
