The platform and gangway remain " fixed in space" no matter how the ship is moving underneath. People easily and safely move from ship to oil rig. Some clever software , motion sensing and hydraulics at work. Here's a timelapse from a job last month, you can see the rams working as the ship moves. Very cool Bruce, I know how to setup and tune your motion system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqpMGxzObok Kevin, the flight simulator visual systems were recently replaced. LED projectors, new image generators, True Airports, etc. http://www.cae.com/civil-aviation/simulation-products/cae-true-airport/ Kev, I'm starting a rumor. This will be our next purchase. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_2_T5ly8uM I went to see the DreamLiner in Everett, Washington. http://www.boeing.com/company/tours/ I started my career in the military on the CF-18 air combat simulator. Then, spent many years at the CAE test site in Montreal building them. I've been at WestJet for the last 15 years. (It's a fun job. 30+ years.) |

I'd like to invite almost all of you to "This is what my Dad/Mom does at work Day at school!" and listen to you talk about your jobs. Kevin C is a pilot? I had no idea! Lots of IT peeps, lots of people with cool lives apart from Stick, and people making money at music that's not Stick. But I think there's about 4 different reality TV shows that could be made on PirateBruce the Sticker at Sea and the oil rigs. Boaz, Best. Thread. Ever! (Well, this week anyway!) |

Kev, you should give hang gliding a try. With aero-tow, we takeoff and land on wheels. I have about 600 hrs as a sailplane pilot, so a few years ago, I decided to try out hang gliding. In Canada, Steinbach, Manitoba is the place to be. My first flight was 1 mile up and nothing but fresh air below. http://altitude.ca/lessons/hang-gliding-lessons/ In the USA, just south of Orlando, Florida Wallaby Ranch is the place to be. http://www.wallaby.com/ kevin-c wrote: ps. for the curious....I never actually flew the airplane until I finished the initial sim training 9 years ago. I bought the hat from Everett. Our four 767's are to test the routes. If the routes generate revenue, you will see my rumor on television. kevin-c wrote: Werk, I hope that rumour becomes reality dooder.....and I hope they park a few tails in YYZ. It must be tough making a living as a full time musician. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aBGmydBRpY There's real talent out there, but who is making the money? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4nISsZFER2oKnNITXDJ7wQ/videos Jayesskerr wrote: Once upon a time, I was a full time guitarist. I did that for about 15 years. Then I got into electrical and instrumentation, and now this summer I am a full time musician again. (when I play stick I just tell people it's my new custom bass so that they let me play in their group!) |

I'm lucky that I have, so far been involved in music since college. 1 year on the QE2 in the band sailing the 7 seas, 12 years as a freelance trombone player/arranger/educator in London, and now as Director of Music at the British International School of Houston, Texas. Still playing 'bone, still writing, and now a compete noob on a weird thing called a Chapman Stick. One day, I'll earn playing that (if only $10 from someone paying me to stop) |
