Danny Carey from TOOL on the Chapman Stick

Looks like a 8-string StickBass to me.

Re: Danny Carey from TOOL on the Chapman Stick
Does Justin Chancellor [tool bassist] ever play the stick? It could yield very interesting results I think, given his penchant for playing a very melodic style of bass against Adam Jones' snaking riffs...
Btw, Tool rock(...in my opinion)! 10,000 days was my favourite album of the whole year in 2006, it is so cool. Definitly worth the wait!

Nope, he never actually does but I think he could do some awesome things too. I've thought that before.

Re: Danny Carey from TOOL on the Chapman Stick
I read a Bass Player interview w/ Justin Chancellor-aparentley he's not into anything w/ more than 4 strings-his loss.(I dunno...I think I heard it here somewhere...the more strings, the more chance you got to hit a right note...)

Re: Danny Carey from TOOL on the Chapman Stick
Tool are the type of band that could probably spawn thousands of young Stick players. I've developed a small but loyal following of young musicians who usually congregate in the mall wearing Opeth T-shirts. The are absolutely blown away by the Stick.
Q: What can you do with only 4 strings? A: Refer to Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, Jaco, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, James Jamerson and Marcus Miller.
Cheers, Andy

Re: Danny Carey from TOOL on the Chapman Stick
A good example of what you can do with only 4 strings: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pEyEu-hS0fA(note the brilliant use of harmonics in the melody halfway through the video, allowing notes to ring out while he holds down the groove on the lower notes). I totally admire the approach of taking something that might seem limiting (in this case, 4 strings and basically no effects) and going as far as you can creatively with it.
