We'll send you a double-thick wrench for your tight truss rod some time this week. No charge.

Emmett! You rock!

I am a bit heavy handed, though... I blame Kevin Chiasson! Hehe he was in GP a few weeks ago, and we were messing around with the Stick, and he thought the action was a bit high with a bit of a bow, and so he started adjusting the truss, and wow! What a difference! I thought the action was awesome before Kev messed with it, but man, I had no idea just how low the action could be (Had a significant effect on playing effort, that's for sure!) and then I got to thinking that maybe I could get it a bit lower...

And then I broke it... gah....

I will call tomorrow, I might also need a new set of strings methinks...

They are made to break before you strip the nut. Some of us know how to adjust a truss rod and some of us don't and some of us are afraid. I seem to fall in all the above catagories. I have a spare wrench

I was in the "afraid" category until I saw Greg Howards How to do truss adjustment video, though I rarely do. My Grand arrived so low on the high bass strings they were microns off the first few frets. Took just a small tweak and its been awesome ever since. Same with the Alto.

Post Re: Anyone ever break a truss wrench?
Greg's truss adjustment video is awesome, and I've watched it at least 6 times over a year and a half, but I still don't feel like I can sight down my Stick by holding it up in the air and seeing if it's straight or not. I get the theory but I seem to suck at it in practice.

I've broken two truss adjustors, right when I got my Sticks. One was 5-years old, came with my Ebay Stick, and was already a bit cracked before I broke it. I broke the second one immediately after I ordered another set of tools, and then slightly cracked another adjustor that came with my Railboard. It works fine, but I treat it like fine porcelain and adjust my trusses very gently. It's designed to break if you put too much force on it.

My Rosewood needs to go jusssssssst a little more on the truss to get to where it won't buzz, and that last half turn wants to strip out the truss adjustor tool. It requires some careful adjusting at both top and bottom, and I probably don't have it at optimum. I play a lot at the top of the Stick, but the bottom frets on my Rosewood are not as playable as they should be. Maybe I need some WD 40 or something in there, or maybe the nut is getting stripped. Maybe I need one of the Michigan Stickists to take a look at it and adjust it up right for me. Steve Balogh actually adjusted it for me when I first got it and it maybe needs some more TLC. I can see from the action of my new NS/Stick that my Rosewood is not optimally adjusted (but still immensely playable!).

So I'm probably much too careful with my last good truss adjustor. I get that they're designed to break before the nut or Stick breaks, and I appreciate that. The truss adjustor is awesome when I get it working right, and the changing Michigan weather and temp extremes means that it needs adjusting every once and a while. I need to get better at it! Or maybe change my strings while I'm at it!

Lol I am a pretty thick fella; I break all kinds of things with not much effort at all. I am thinking new strings are in order, I may have too much tension due to my tuning on the bass side. I've adjusted my guitars and basses for years, I thought the action was good on my Stick until Kev C made it lower, and then the thing got way easier to play.

Tough as nails, friends. Tough as nails...
