Post Playing the Stick like a bass guitar - a report
Hi,
I thought I'd share the church service of last sunday with you:
https://mediaspeler.bethel.nl/kerkdienst/mag-het-iets-minder/
The challenging set of 3 songs begins at 17:36.
The first and last of these 3 songs asked for a straightforward, 8th note legato bass guitar line. The middle song, however, starts with a delicate acoustic fingerpicking intro in the original arrangement, and our guitarist favors electric guitar (plus, he plays a solo in the middle song). Since we want to keep a good flow, there's no time to switch instruments. Nice occasion to use the Stick! Even more since my bass side has 2 EMG's with a pickup selector switch... neck pickup only for the delicate part, both pickups for a full round bass sound.
So, I ended up playing most bass parts by plucking with my right hand index finger, and doing mostly 2+2-notes-style arpeggios in the quiet parts. I kinda like playing arpeggio's like this, because I can enrich them in the 2nd verse by playing 3+3 if needed for more fatness.
Anyway, I was quite happy with the way the Stick sounded both plucked and tapped in this specific setting.
And yes, we messed up during the intro... ;-)

Good stuff! I love the plucked bass sound of the Stick. Sounds like a really cool bass, but not one that I've ever really heard outside of that particular technique.

Nice job! You got some good camera time during that 2nd piece, too - how many "what is that thing?" questions did you get? ;)

I think one person asked about it, but most people probably saw me before, so it's not the Stick's premiere in our church :-)
