Post Cleaning a Railboard, Cleaning a Stick
I've got some new sets of strings on the way, one for my Railboard and one for my wife's maple Stick. It's time for me to get seriously reacquainted with the instrument.
What was the brand of oil used to finish Sticks, that is also used to periodically clean and recondition them? The last can of that stuff I had went band a few years ago and I threw it out - now I can't remember the name. D'oh!
What would be the recommended cleaning agent for Railboards? My first thought is alcohol wipes - hand sanitizing wipes are ubiquitous at this point and easy to get, so that's my first thought. Anybody have a better suggestion?
Thanks...!

Emmett uses Watco Danish Oil to finish. For general cleaning up, I've always used either lemon or orange oil and applied with #0000 grade steel wool. That's essentially a polishing steel wool and in addition to making a wood Stick look like new, it easily takes off any and all dirt/gunk.

I just recently pulled my 10-string out of its case for the first time in several years and found that the case foam had disintegrated. The instrument itself was kind of sticky (heh heh) and covered with bits of foam and dirt. I went to work on it and had it looking like a new instrument in about a half hour.

Hi Luc.

Check out my post from a few weeks back
"Cleaning a railboard" (around May 12/13th )
there were some good suggestions for cleaning Railboards.

All the best.

Watco! That was it. Thanks, Glenn. Good to know about 0000 steel wool, too... I've used 0000 steel wool on older drum hardware and drum hoops before to restore it (making sure to mask up - that stuff is a lung burner) but I wouldn't have thought to use it on a Stick.
Thank you Steve! - I must have missed it in my search. I'll go look right now.
