Hi all

I've been lurking about various threads here lately and see lots of odd mentions of one-off or unusual sticks that pique my interest. I'd be keen to see (ideally) these strange or rare variations, if only for my own enjoyment. I can't really tell how to look for these in the galleries if there's no keywords so has anyone got pics -- a gallery of distinction all in one place?

For info, what I mean is out-of-the-usual sticks whether that be unusual materials like the lucite one (what became of that?), the moser graphite beam ones, white polycarbonate (there seem to have been two of these, any other colours?), one-off woods, custom inlays or unusual strings (I'm sure I've seen 9 and 14 string versions mentioned).

Hey! This is a great idea. I second this, if anyone is interested in making it happen somewhere, I'll gladly contribute whenever possible.

I'm particularly interested in the various hardwoods used over the years. A guy on this board satisfied some curiosity by sending me pics of his 2009-ish built Stick of Orange Osage...only two were made of this material. I've worked with this material some in my shop. Orange Osage is not terribly common.

There were also Purple Heart and Zebrawood Sticks in the mid-90s. I'd love to see good photos of them.

In the oddities category, don't forget the skinny 7-string Stick Bass (the precursor to the 8-string Stick Bass) from around 1997.

I believe Cory McCormick has one made of Ash? Story goes something like he saw the odd looking blank at SE, Emmett said it was an experiment, Cory picked it up & ordered the Stick.

I thnk it's Ash? Whatever it is it's very light (I think he said 'almost like balsa'?) and it reacts a lot to humidity changes.

I'm not sure if Cory is on the Forum, but I 'meet' him regularly on Bob's Zoom call. I could ask if you are interested?

I'd like to know if there are any other users of the RB-8 besides myself, I know that they came stock from S.E. with an enormous gap running down the center, but I was able to modify the bridge and the flaps nut so I could get the strings perfectly spaced, which Greg mentioned would never work because of the pick up design, well... poor Greg may God rest his soul was totally wrong on that one !!

Anyhow, I was briefly experimenting with converting it to a 9 string, which would have been easy enough, but once I got the 8 string set up perfect, I left it as that, tuned Crafty as Emmett originally set this instrument up for.

There's pictures of that elsewhere on this forum, but here's one of the fingerboard when I was experimenting with having it as a 9 string, and before you ask - this was very short lived as there was no way to properly tune this arrangement Crafty...

#404 made in 1978 from Angico hardwood.

It has the unique appearance of Tiger's eye.
The photos don't capture this effect.

My PRS Custom 24 is done in Curly Maple with a similar effect.

Last week I found a photo I took about five years ago I had forgotten about. It's a working "Grid" Stick. A midi controller where all of the strings are the same gage. And, it still works. The rack unit is not pictured. Was originally owned by Pete Gilbert, who passed away about 6-7 years ago.

Yes - not sure if the Patch of Shades belonged to Pete, Oz has a working one also, I have a couple vids of me playing Oz's. There was more than Stick items Pete had - a Moog Taurus pedal synth, I believe he had a Therimin, and just about every vintage of Boss guitar synths that existed, all in pristine condition. I'd have to ask Oz, I'm thinking Pete also had one, as I recall seeing two of those Patch of Shades pedals at Oz's,
