I know that a lot of you guys go for stick stands when playing, but for me it's a real no-no. It just wouldn't feel right, but I can't seem to put into words why???

I'll admit that it felt sort of strange at first, but it really helped my playing after I got used to it. In my duet, I play a lot of the high-register parts. My stand is set to make this as effortless as possible. Even with the belt hook and strap set to maximum height, it just never compared to the freedom of "weightless" playing.

The biggest reason for the stand, however, is that we play a lot of festivals and fairs where we sell CDs from our booth. When dealing with customers and handling money, all you have to do is walk away from the instrument and take care of business. This would be a huge pain if I had to unstrap the instrument every two minutes or so and start all over again. - Matt

Hi Matt,

When I used to busque in Santa Fe, NM is used a fanny pack as my Stick belt so that I could easily sell tapes. It also made it easier to show people the instrument than if I took it off and set it down.

To me, The Stick is all about a sense of connectedness i never had as a keyboardist. It doesn't feel "other," but rather a part of me, when I play.

I hear what you're saying about access to the higher notes, which is one of the great appeals of the Alto. They are "right there."

Does the Stick fit snug and tight in the slot
or do you use small screws in the back to keep it stable? Also what tool did you use to make the slot

Hello JRJ,

actually I cut a piece of wood in 2 (a rest of a bass guitar I began to build !) and did the slot in one face following the belt-hook design. I used wood Knives and sand paper.
Then I glued both part together again et voilà ! After I screwed it a Tom Mount (Pearl BT-3) to put into a small Tom Holder (TH-88s), itself attached to the Cymbal stand.

Nevertheless, the Stick can move a little when it's in place, that's why I have to hold it in hand to prevent belt-hook break; the Stick could go backward and the belt-hook can twist and break !

I should find a way to keep it fitted into the support; something who unclose the whole belt-hook...

You're right about the Alto, Greg. That's why I ordered one. Three months to go! She'll be a tarara with ACTV2 and indigo blue dots. - Matt

Perhaps, as the NS-Stick is already a collaboration between Emmett and Ned, the Stick could have the standard NS mount installed to use with all NS features (Pins, Tripods, Straps ===> Look here) and SEI could also modify its belt-hook to be usable on this NS mount ?

Before this feature exists, I built my own Cymbal stand :

Hi guys,

I'm looking to experiment with a mount for my stick, and this was the only picture I could find. I tried a google search, and a stickist site search, and didn't find much.

I am aware of the mount that Heartstrings uses, by Tagg guitars. However, I'm looking to make my own and was looking for pictures of any mounts that people have used. So, if I missed a post somewhere, or if anyone has a mount that they could take pictures of, I'd be grateful for some leads here.

Muchos Gracias! :D

I would definitively change the belt hook
I broke my second one a couple of weeks ago. I did an ugly (but solid) fix and I will ordering one with my next string batch...
I'm looking for a heavy duty belt so that the weight is transferred a little bit more evenly and reduce the pressure on my lower back.
Or maybe I will make some kind of a harness or slider strap.

Cheers, Daniel.

I can't use the supplied belt hook, and took it off...instead I use a homemade belt to get the instrument up higher on my body--necessary to play piano music.

I would like to see an adapter that allows the Stick to be worn from a shoulder strap like the NS....

But better still, I would like a 12-string version of the NS design. For my purposes, that would be the perfect fretboard...anyone else want one?

After playing the Stick for 8 years without problem, I broke two of them within the last 6 monthes
I'm considerinf trying to find these old iron belt hooks... :!:

I would like to see frets that are even higher, so I don't have to cut my fingernails. I'm trying hard to find a nail length that will accommodate both stick & guitar, but…

I have considered a bit of scalloping, but…you know

Well that is exactly what Wolfgang Daiss did with his stick...

I would like to see Piezo pickups on the Stick. Possibly route them to a blender to mix with the normal pickups as well as the possibility of going to a midi-driver (something like the Ghost pickup system). A few years ago I was researching the availability of Piezo pickup pieces but at the time nobody had anything small enough to use on the Stick. Perhaps it's possible now?
