Eric, how long before we will be able to jam with each other over the net?

This is already happening! I can't find the link right now, but there is a open-source project which allows simultaneous playing over the internet. I believe that it is audio only but I can't remember for sure. The project is pretty amazing due to the inherent delays over the net. They do some sophisticated caching to solve it. I'll keep looking for it. Anyone up for a trial run?

You know, I've downloaded the program but I haven't been able to figure it out. If I'm thinking correctly, I just play a song and it transcribes it for me?!?! Tutorial please?

jrj and Eric: is this what you're talking about? http://www.ejamming.com. There was an article about this in the Aug.07 Keyboard mag.(http://www.keyboardmag.com.) See if this helps out. Sounds like we're getting there.

It doesn't do the transcribing for you, it's just an aid. You start by opening a music file, it will handle any format the doesn't have DRM on it. The you can start manipulating it by doing things like slow it down, mark sections, measures, and beats. When you pause the playing it will analyze the spectrum at that point and show you what notes are being played. If there's enough information then it will even take a good guess as to the chord.

Here's the place to start with music transcription:

Maybe I should make some screencasts?
