Post Transcibing software for video
Hi, all.

My favorite software has been updated and it is so cool that I'm sharing. The software is called Transcribe!, it is commercial with a trial version. I'm not associated with it in any way, I'm just a very satisfied customer. Here's the link for it:

http://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/overview.html

What's so cool about this new release is that the app will work with video. This means that it can open a Quicktime video and let you transcribe from it. You can adjust the audio/video time sync for videos that are off and then you can slow the audio and the video down without shifting the pitch! Here's a screenshot of a Don Shiff video that is on the SE site (I sure hope it's OK to use this here since it's publicly downloadable):

The slider on the bottom is the audio sync correction. While that window is showing you the video another window is showing you the notes that he is playing:

You can slow the whole thing down all the way to 20% with no pitch shift. It also allows you to mark sections, measures, beats and fractions of beats to figure out rhythms. I don't have a trained ear for transcribing but with this marvel I don't need it! I loved the software before it had video, now I can hardly contain myself. Imagine the possibilities! It is quite easy to download youtube videos and convert then to Quicktime. Then you can learn from them with this.

Oh, and just to sweeten the deal, it has versions for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. It's not even that expensive at 25 British Pounds (USD 50). I'm a fan and just had to share.

Wow! That looks so cool. Now that I have my new stick, my "waiting list" of events is surgery Apr.7, rehab, finding an apt., then equiping w/ a computer-studio. this will be on my "must-have" software list. When that time comes, around end-of-May, expect a deluge of computer preference questions. All Hail to Stickist.com and it's great members!

Marty, still ebullient over new Stick

P.S. Eric I am still working on Satie #1 and am just writing it out by hand as a go. It is coming, just a bit slow.

I use to own an iMAC and thought it was great but eventually went back to a PC mainly because several programs I wanted to use didn't work with Macs. .......... Unfortunate because I like Macs. BUTTT they're more expensive then PCs and a lot of programs are PC only. And the Mac - PC program converter I had was slower then dial up! ...... Oh well

(Sorry to hijack the thread)

The software is available for Windows, Mac, and even Linux. I use it on my mac with OS X. I don't think there is a version for OS 9. There are lots more features that I can could mention here, it's definitely worth a download of the trial version. There is also a forum that supports it with many experienced composers on it.

Yeah, the mac comment was only 'tongue in cheek'! It sounds like interesting software, I'll have to try and find some time to check it out.

On the mac/PC debate. Since OSX came out, I can't imagine why anyone would opt for any other interface (other than expense!) as It is such a thing of elegance and beauty. I'm a mac user doing graphics on a site of 1000 or so PC's, and everyone is blown away when they see features like Expose.

You do seem to have your tongue in your cheek quite a bit. You also seem the rarely bite your tongue. Amazing!

This is really somthing amazing for musicians who can't read to be able to translate an idea to
someone who can; via video

Eric, how long before we will be able to jam with each other over the net?
These would help: http://www.i-vue.net/index.html
